I would first like to see an updated Hijackthis log
Download Hijackthis Installer from HERE
For an alternate download location, you can try HERE
SAVE it to your desktop
Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run it
Choose Install

Hijackthis v2.0.2 will open

Under Main Menu, Select
Do a system scan and save a Log file
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and Paste the Whole log back here to the forum-

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Suggestion no. 1
I see your running 2 AntiVirus protections
I suggest you NEVER run more than one as more than one can, and probably will cause conflicts and system slowdowns
I See Symantec's and AVG AV installed, decide which is able to update and you like the best and uninstall the other

Reboot the computer afterwards

Back in windows

Let me know how things are running and also post a fresh hijackthis log please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

After you unintall Symantec's and reboot the computer

Can you do the following
Go to START>>RUN>>type in
msconfig
Hit OK

under the General tab select NORMAL startup
Apply and close then restart again

Back in Windows
Can you download the next tool
Please download NoLop to your Desktop from one of the links below...
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot.
  • Double click NoLop.exe to run it.
  • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy".
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK.
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish.
--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program.--

Please post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh log from HijackThis.

==Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
Don't use anything else than notepad or the script will not work

Quote
Driver::
jbridgep

File::
C:\DOCUME~1\EVANKO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\jbridgep.sys

Folder::
C:\Program Files\kind option bait
C:\Documents and Settings\Evan Kopilow\Application Data\Kind Option Bait
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Internet Spam Support Audio

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Support audio cool poll"=-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"knob online"=-
Save this as txtfile on your desktop
CFScript

Drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Combofix will start>>Follow the prompts
Don't mouse click on it, let it complete

When finished, it shall produce a log for you again, with the same name C:\ComboFix.txt..
I'll need to see that again later

Post back all the following
1. Post the log again from Combofix
2. Post a fresh hijackthis log
3. supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis

Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Can you let me know how things are running please

Also, let me know the following
Did you purposely install the following codec
DivoCodec version 1.0.0.2

Also, can I see one more log
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open Hosts File Manager
Click the 'Open in Notepad' button
Copy>paste back here the contents

Can you uninstall DivoCodec from add/remove programs?
DivoCodec version 1.0.0.2

Afterwards
Delete the following folders
C:\Program Files\DivoCodec < -this folder

Are you sure that was the whole output from HOSTS FILE MANAGER
Can you try it again, when notepad opens select EDIT>>SELECT ALL
EDIT>>COPY

I'll be gone for the evening, so I'll check back tomorrow to see how you got along
Also keep me informed how things are running please

Also how can I stop quicktime from starting when my computer runs besides deselecting it in selective startup?

I don't have quicktime installed right now, but typically
Open Quicktime>>Then select edit or Tools>>Preferences>>Quicktime preferences
Under the Update tab, uncheck "Check for updates Automatically"
Apply it

Under the Advanced tab>>Uncheck System Tray icon>>apply and ok it
Close Quicktime

Run a System Scan only with Hijackthis and tick this entry
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime

Then click FIX CHECKED

After ok'ing the prompts with Hijackthis
Reboot the computer

That should disabled quicktime from startup

If everything is running better, I suggest that you do the following
Older System Restore points are infected
Go to START>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Select>>Create a New restore point
Give it a name, any name,
 and click Create
Windows will prompt when it was created successfully

When that's done

Go to START>>RUN>>type the following
cleanmgr
Hit OK
Let if finish calculating

Select the More Options tab
and click Cleanup.. under 'System Restore'
This will clear all later restore points except for the one you just made

Ok the prompts, it may take a few seconds to remove old restore points
Ok again after it's ready and let it finish cleaning

Go to START>>RUN>>Copy then paste the next command below in bold
Then hit OK

combofix /u

This will uninstall combofix and it's components

  • Click the red "MoveIt!" button.
  • Close OTMoveIt when it has completed.
Note:  If an entry cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose "Yes".

Afterwards: Reopen Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open HOSTS FILE MANAGER
Hijackthis should prompt that no Hosts file was found and do you want to create one
Do so

OTMoveit2
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Click the Cleanup! button
A list will be downloaded>>Allow it Internet access if prompted by your Firewall
Don't change anything in this list
  • Select Yes at the prompt
Wait for the confirmation box to open to reboot the computer
Don't mouseclick during the wait as you may cause the tool to stall
  • Select Yes to reboot Now
NOTE: This procedure will also delete OTMoveit.exe from desktop and other tools we used for cleaning

I suggest that you add SpywareBlaster to your protection software
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates
After updating, select "Protection" on the Left
Then select "Enable all Protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"

Take a look at the following
Why Did I get Infected in the First Place?

I hope that helps
Can you do the following
After doing the above
Can you run HOSTS FILE MANAGER again in Hijackthis and post the contents of the log that opens in Notepad

TY for all the help hope this log is clean, but who knows. It sucks I'm so careful with what sites I go to and what I download. I have a script blocker on firefox(the only browser I use) and I typically download nothing but I got a movie and needed a codec to view it and I know it was either the movie or the codec that got me. Thanks again.

I would ask to link to the movie file, ONLY if it was safe to do so
Don't worry, I'm not shy, I've visited many bad sites checking out bad guys  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
You can PM me the link if possible
I would like to check out this codec myself
But don't link if your sure it's not safe

Don't worry about the above, I found the installer

On another note, everything looks good
