Administrator profile
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:46:13 PM »
I should never have messed with profiles.
Hi, my name is Aidan.

I'm running XP off the Administrator account, then someone asked me to create an account for them, so I did, but first it told me to create an admin account which I did. NOw, I can't access Administrator (the profile I had before I messed with the profiles) and I have "lost" all off my settings. this is a pain in my ass, can someone help me out? I want to be able to get on the original admin profile, not the one I named Aidan.

Thanks.

But, reboot into Safe mode
Do you see the Hidden Admin account, is that the one your after?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Hm, I apologize for posting an unclear question http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

yes that is indeed the account I am after. Can it only be accessed in safe mode? or is there a way I can make it available at the normal screen again?

XP sets the Admin to hidden by default, this is by design
Can't imagine what settings you have set in the other Admin account that you can't set in your new profile
Think of it as a backup profile, if you can't access your own profile then you can reboot to safe mode and access the hidden one

Here's a quote from another site
Quote
The original ("Hidden") Administrator account was the first one set up when XP is installed. The moment a User account is set up the Administrator account vanishes from the Welcome screen and you cannot logon to the Administrator account unless you use the Ctrl+Alt+Delete (for XP Pro) or Safe Mode (for Home). Now if you did not create a second user this Administrator account cannot go into hiding and becomes your normal user. (For safety reasons, it's best to NOT use the main administrator account as the only account. If nothing else, create a second account with admin privleges, although many prefer using a third account with limited user priviledges as the main working account. It's your choice. With a single "Hidden" Administrator account, if something goes wrong, you don't have a backup account from which you can fix things.)
I suggest that you don't resort to the original hidden account and set up your new account as preferred

You're absolutely right. I can't believe I overlooked that. the quote was the info that I needed.
Thanks as usual. You're very helpful.
