Windows Service Pack 2 Issue

Hey,

For some reason everytime I install SP2 or SP3 (haven't tried 1 yet, I'm assuming the same is gonna happen) my computer keeps give me the blue screen of death on start up. Everything goes fine until the start up (Windows Boot screen) but then after a while the BSOD comes up with: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xBACC3524, 0xC0000034, 0x000000000, 0x000000000). This is really annoying. This never happens on a clean version of Windows (without any Service Packs).

I cannot install my audio drivers etc. without SP2. I also would like to say that I'm not very good with computers, so could you please explain in detail what I need to do (if you have a cure for this).

what operating system came preinstalled on this computer?

What's exact make/model of computer?

Can you also try the following
Download>>Extract to it's own folder
Aida32

Open the extracted folder and run aida32.exe
click on REPORT>>REPORT WIZARD>>NEXT
Ensure HARDWARE RELATED PAGES is selected then click NEXT
Select PLAIN TEXT then click FINISH

Let it run it's scan, it will prompt when it's done
Click on SAVE TO FILE
Save this file to your Desktop

Come back here, in a reply box under Attachment Editor BROWSE for the saved text file
Right click on it and choose SELECT
Then click the UPLOAD button

Add the attachment into manage current attachments

It didn't come preinstalled with anything. Then XP was installed onto it. I'm assuming the people (from whom be bought it from) used XP as I don't think Vista was out yet.
What do you mean by what is the exact make/model of my computer? My friend assembled it for me. It has been working fine for the past 1 1/2 years.

I'm not sure if this will be a problem with the report but I don't have SP2 install currently (because it doesn't let me boot of course). This is just a plain Windows (with a few drivers installed, ATI display drivers, DX 9).

Download Hijackthis Installer from [color=\"#FF0000\"]HERE[/color]
For an alternate download location, you can try HERE
SAVE it to your desktop
Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run it
Choose Install

Hijackthis v2.0.2 will open

Under Main Menu, Select
Do a system scan and save a Log file
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and Paste the Whole log back here to the forum-

Have you tried installing SP1a before, I would download to desktop and try it

Am curious however, this computer is not that old, why they did not install SP2 from the beginning???

It did have SP2 but then recently something happened (the booting thing) and I had to reinstall, now I don't have SP2 installed cause it will not boot with it installed. I did install the SP1a express version as SP3 needed atleast SP1 installed     before it could install. I haven't just tried SP1a though I'm assuming the same thing is going to happen. Do you still want me to try it?

EDIT:

Forgot to add this to the first post. I put my mobo cd (i think it was the mobo cd) which had my audio drivers. An autoplay thing came up. I think I checked the checkboxes similar to what the picture has.

After that I got a similar BSOD error, but this time it was: STOP:0x0000007B (0xF789E63C, 0xC0000034, 0x000000000, 0x000000000) or something similar to that.

Did you try installing Chipset drivers from Gigabyte for your motherboard?

I would try SP1a however after you install latest drivers for motherboard

I'm unsure what version you have>>Version 1, 2 or 3

Can you manually look at your motherboard and get the exact version
It should be stamped on it, looking something like the following

GA-M55PLUS-S3G ver.

Or you can scan your computer from driver agent and post info, see if we can find version no.

I looked in the manual of the Gigabyte motherboard it said Rev 1001. Don't know if this means anything but I'll keep looking.

Yes I think that is the version. In the Gigabyte site it tells you to look for Rev *number here*.

No, I did no such thing. Was I meant to? Previously when I reinstalled XP I didn't have to do anything like that.

For some reason I couldn't edit the post above so anyway. I press F6 at the prompt but it tells me to insert a floppy. I don't have a floppy drive but have 2 DVD roms (1 which is in use with the Windows Boot Disc). How can I get it to read my other DVD drive instead of the floppy?

I am meant to use my motherboard cd for this prompt aren't I? (look at post #7 for screenshot of that cd).

You may not be using the Raid config?
You can check your bios settings, you may want to disable Raid if configured
All bios settings are a bit different, you will have to read your manual
Is this the same CD of XP used to install Windows the last time?

I bet they have SP2 slipstreamed to the XP disk

I suggest that you install chipset if possible and try SP1a and see if it will install

Then you can go from there

When you installed XP, did you do a clean install?
Which means did you do a full format
Is this a legal version of XP?

Why installing to F?
What other operating system are you booting on this machine?

Yes it was a clean install.
Yes I'm pretty sure it is a legal version.

I think after using some partition software it stuffed them up and moved it to F:\. I'm not 100% sure about this though.
I was booting Vista but after this started happening it doesn't seem to boot.

EDIT:

One more thing, I tried a slipstreamed version with SP2. But when it got to the selecting a partition to install part it said:
Setup cannot access this disk.

Then when I press F3 to quit a BSOD comes up saying:

setupdd.sys - Address F7418CAD base at F73EC000, Datestamp 41107c8F

Is this a clue to what is causing this problem?

I would disconnect any hardware you don't need connected to the computer
Try installing with the bare necessaties

Also, if you added more memory (Ram) to this computer, even if you didn't
Remove and try installing with only one good module if allowable

According to Crucial

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

Note: did you add more Ram?
