IE6 2465-Windows Update-Username-Password??
« on: May 09, 2001, 07:09:49 PM »
I dwonloaded the 2465 version. Looking at the  Tools and drop down for windows Update-it asks for username and password. What and why does it ask for this? What should I do? Lastly what does this update do? Thanks.

Perfect example of someone who should not be using IE6 beta 2465.

Lastly what does this update do?

Hmmm...It\'s called Windows Update!!!!  I think common sense would be the best bet in trying to figure out what the Windows Update button does.  But if that is not an option, I guess I\'ll have to tell you.  The Windows Update button updates Windows!!!

brew me a cup. we\'re here for the long haul.
if at first you dont succeed, call it version 1.0

Great answer for someone asking for help. No wonder I prefer the PC911 forum. No smart asses there!

Sorry, but I doubt there\'s no smartasses there.  Not saying they\'re not here...just saying they\'re wherever you go.

Anyways, if it helps any...if IE setup is asking for a username/password, then you\'re either trying to install it on the wrong OS (there\'s separate downloads for IE6 2465, so if you download for winme and try to install on win2k...it wants to download the correct files and you can\'t).  If you mean you go to windows update and it asks for a username/pass, I\'m assuming the link for windows update is a beta link.  Just goto www.windowsupdate.com, it should work fine, with no passwords (if I\'m wrong, let me know).
