As a troubleshooting step, go ahead and uninstall AVG 7.5 AntiVirus and Anti-Malware if installed
Reboot the computer

Back in Windows, ensure that all of AVG was removed
You can post a hijackthis log to ensure

Don't do much browsing and downloading on the internet, as you will be without AV software
We can get you another later

Try Steam, not sure if it will help, but it may

Well, that doesn't appear to be the problem.

I have a sneaky suspicion its a bad memory stick although its not blue screening like it did last time.

You may recall last time I was not able to get the memory test to run. Is there any type of memory test that I can burn to DVD instead. I couldn't get the cd to load or work last time.

Did you burn the .iso as an image file?

Did you set your computer to boot from CD first in the bios?

I down loaded the file. I used nero and burned it to a cd. Not sure what or how to burn it as an image file.

Yes I changed the bios to start from the cd rom.

It didn't work.

What version of Nero are you using?

Here's a direct link to Memtest86 ver. 3.3
http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.3.iso.zip

Save it and unzip the contents to desktop
Right-click on a ZIP file and select the Extract All.
Press the Next button.
Enter the path where you would like the files to be extracted to.
After you set the location where you wish the file to be extracted to, press the Next button.
The file has now been extracted

Uncheck the box labeled Show extracted files. Then press the finish button.

Put in a CDR or CDRW, I prefer CDRW so you can reuse it later

Burn memtest86-3.3.iso to the CD
Remember to burn as an image file

Boot the computer with it, it should auto run

Doesn't appear to be memory related

Can you post a fresh hijackthis log, if it's clean, I suggest you ensure you have all latest video/sound drivers for your computer

Ok I did install a new video card about two weeks ago. I didn't bother using the cd for the drivers. Instead I went directly to nvidia. Everytime I reboot though I still get the window pop up for found new hardware. I went to the site a few days ago and after trying to locate my card 6800 gt it said no updates were available if infact I did that right since it only said 6800 series.

Not sure where to go for ac97 to download any new sound drivers.

What about AVG? What should I use?

Ok I've done the following. I went back and installed the cd for nvidia and the latest drivers. Check

Now when it comes to the real tec AC97 is another story. So looking ac97 properties/driver details I noticed there is a list and a half in there most of which have 2004 as a date on them. And I went to real tec ac97 and I don't have a clue as what I need as drivers.

Look in your device manager
Do you have any yellow exclamation marks

When you installed the drivers for your video driver from Cd
Did you uninstall your other video drivers first, reboot then install new driver?

Is this the driver you downloaded from Nvidia?

There are no yellow exclamation marks anywhere.

You list the correct driver. However, I did not remove the driver first. What I did was go to the site and downloaded the driver again and just copy it over. In that process the window popped up again saying found new hardware and to use the disk. I installed the disk and ran it and it completed down loading the driver again.

Now I was also looking in my add and remove just now to find that there are 2 flashmenu showing and two java showing java 6 update 3 and java 6 update 5

No sir its not working. This is what happens. I load up Steam and everything is ok. But as soon as I bring the menu up to either the friends list or game list I'll hear a small click sound and the red light stays on and then everything freezes. Occationally it will let me game if I switch to a game real fast.

I've submitted questions in Steam support but there for ever and a day to answer anything and there usually no help.

I might have no other choice but to remove Steam all together and reinstall and give that a try on the chance its a corrupted file in the loading. I hate to do that since I will probably lose my entire profile for Call of duty4 and have to start all over. I'm pretty sure we've done just about everything we can do on this end unless you have any other idea's.
