Please post your experiences with the new IE6 2469 build here.  If you don\'t have it, you can download it here.  There\'s no readme yet, and I\'d like to know what\'s different, and what OS\'s it\'ll install on (I\'m using WinXP as my primary OS, or I\'d check myself).

2469 DOESN\'T run on XP there will be a build later that will allow that.

Works fine for me on Windows Me. Only thing is that after installing i got this error message:

\"ieinfo5.ocx is missing or corrupt\"

Never did this before.
Everything seem to work fine anyways.

I tried it on Windows ME and it worked fine at first.  Now it won\'t work at all, it just freezes up.

Thanks for posting this download anyways, I had to know if it would work.

NOTE:  To all Windows ME users.  Don\'t be a bonehead like I was and disable System Restore.  Especially if you\'re a daredevil like me and you like to try out the latest stuff, set a restore point just before you install.

One more thing... if anyone has had a similar problem or solution, would you please post it here?
Thanks.

Starting to hear of some problems on WinMe.  But haven\'t heard anything about other OS\'s.  So is it working ok on other OS\'s (and it\'s just a WinMe problem/fluke) or is no one trying?

And yes, System Restore is a nice thing to have, in case something goes wrong.  Have you tried the uninstall feature on IE6?

I tried the uninstall on builds 2462 and 2465 and both times I got this : \"The uninstall was unsuccessful.\"  Fun, wow.

2462 worked well for me but 2465 would not work at all and I couldn\'t uninstall.  Even after using IE Eradicate and installing IE 5.5, the browser would freeze as soon as I clicked a link.  I was forced to format C:                http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

2469 worked at first, then the same thing happened.

Can you try just upgrading WinMe over itself?  That might fix the problem (I used to load Win98 over itself all the time to fix problems).

Does the IE Repair option work maybe?  Try reinstalling IE over itself?  2462 is probably the safest build to use anyways, MS never meant 2465 or 2469 to be public.

But, safe = boring.

I too used to install 98 on top of 98 at times when system files may have been damaged and it worked every time without a single problem.

A strange thing happens when I install Me over itself.  Everything works except one thing: the internet.  Something is changed on a re-install so when I dial up, nothing gets through to either of my browsers. I don\'t know if a setting or file is changed, or even where to begin.  I never have this problem on a clean install.

I re-installed (and used the repair function) the post-betas (2465, 2469) with no error messages, but the same freeze problem occurs.

l\'ve used MS IE build 2463 on Windows ME before, but it could not be uninstalled successfully. Then l used IE Radicator to remove it, after that l found that my IE and any windows\' upper icon (on the right corner) are disappeared! Then, l re-installed Public Preview 2462, it works fine. But IE \'s verion build 2469 is leaked, l\'m afraid that l will occur the same problem. Could everyone tell me your experience when using IE 6 build 2469?

Hrm.  Only other thing I can think of now, is if you used IE Radicator to completely remove IE, then upgrade WinMe over itself.  Perhaps it\'s not wanting to reinstall IE because a newer file version is there.  I dunno, sounds like it\'s just gonna give you problems no matter what.

Well, for the couple of minutes that it worked, did you like it?

Ok, for everyone using this build on WinMe (or thinking about it), here\'s a tip that might solve the freezing problems.  Quote:

\"Concerning the freezing problem of ie beta 2.465 in Windows  ME: I had the same problem but then deinstalled the support for meta tags in \"software\". And that was the solution! Now IE 2465 works fine n my machine.\"

I bet this can help out some of you, if it works let me know.

Right! l remembered that IE build 2463 when using Windows Me also has a connection problem as you saidd before. l\'ve checked my connection network and internet explorer setting, they\'re ok, but IE is always disconnect my connection and then said that there\'s a problem occured, you can report the bugs to MS or restart it. lt\'s too terrible!
Could you remove IE build 2469 successfully? l\'m considering l would use IE build 2469. lt\'s so terrible when occurs these problems as said.

There is a remove (and a repair) option for IE6, but as you can see posted here, it doesn\'t always work.  I\'d say it\'s relatively safe to try out, just make sure you have backups, just in case.  It\'s a beta, and unexpected things can happen (hell, even finished products give problems all the time).

IE6 works fine for me, but I\'m using the version that comes with WinXP.  Since there\'s no upgrade to be done, I skip a lot of those problems.

pcxboy:  You can try 2469 safely as long as you have System Restore is active.  You can set a restore point and if everything isn\'t kosher, just go back to that point.  This feature of ME is worth the price alone for most of us home users.  I\'ve used it and it works perfect every time.

I\'m using IE 6 2469 right now and it is fast!!!  If you install on Windows ME like I did, uncheck \"Support for Smart Tags\" on install.

Thanks Jose for the tip.

Another tip - this one from me - after you install you can change the icons for Outlook Express to the new icons by doing this:
-Right Click Outlook Express
-Left Click Properties
-Click the General Tab and Uncheck Read Only
-Click Apply
-Click Shortcut Tab
-Click Change Icon
-Click OK and OK again
Now you\'ve got the spiffy new icon.

I don\'t know if you can. I couldn\'t.
You can Restore to a point before 2462, then install 2469 or
install 2469 over it.

Since I never had a major problem with 2462, maybe try 2469 over top MAKING SURE TO UNCHECK SUPPORT FOR SMART TAGS BEFORE YOU INSTALL!

Still using 2469, smooth as butter.
