Laptop Has Issues
« on: April 08, 2008, 06:22:22 AM »
My laptop is currently not running properly. I am not 100% sure what is wrong, but I know RAM issues comes into it somewhere. I cant even run iTunes or Media Player, without any other applications, without my songs skipping and the program freezing temporarily. Here is my HiJack this log:

Laptop Has Issues
« Reply #1 on: April 08, 2008, 06:12:50 PM »
It doesn't appear to be nothing malicious
But let's do a double check
If you have a copy of dss.exe, can you delete it
Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your desktop.
Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post back just the Whole contents of Main.txt and Extra.txt

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Thanks for the reply, but Ive decided to format my laptop anyway, its long overdue for it.

On the otherhand, my girlfriend is having issues with her laptop. Some general spyware/adware issues, and a couple of files Norton has picked up as trojans.

Here is the HijackThis log:

==Open notepad
Copy ALL the BLUE text below and Paste to notepad
Don't use anything else than notepad or the script will not work
File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\otspbypw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fnnftqle.dll
Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"6ca5b69c"=-
"BM6f968500"=-

Save this as txtfile on your desktop
name it:
CFScript

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
In the event you already have ComboFix, I need you to delete it and download this version

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Especially disable Norton's Script blocking

Drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Combofix will start>>Follow the prompts

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Take notice: Combofix may prompt that the computer needs to reboot, don't interupt it
Allow it too

When finished, it shall produce a log for you  with the  name C:\ComboFix.txt..
I'll need to see that log

NOTE:
# Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
# Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
# If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

Post back all the following:

1. Post the log from ComboFix
2. Post a fresh hijackthis log
3. I would like to see an Uninstall list from Hijackthis

Reopen Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, check the "agree" box.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.

- Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  • Click the Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
Delete CFScript on desktop, we're going to recreate it

==Open notepad
Copy ALL the BLUE text below and Paste to notepad
Don't use anything else than notepad or the script will not work

Save this as txtfile on your desktop
name it:
CFScript

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
In the event you already have ComboFix, I need you to delete it and download this version

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Back in Windows, can you now do the following
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.

  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post back all the following: Even if it takes more than on reply to do so
Also, keep me informed how things are running please

1. Post the log from ComboFix
2. Post a fresh hijackthis log
3. Post the log from MBAM

That's the same ComboFix log you posted the first time
Did you run it with my last set of instructions of creating a new CFScript on desktop
If you did, can you navigate to this file and post it's whole contents

C:\ComboFix.txt

Also, let me know how things are running please
