If you are running XP pro, just press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the welcome screen, that will change the interface to a windows 2000 logon, change the username to administrator and you are good to go.
If you are running XP home, the only way to logon is through safe mode, M$ did this so that the stupid people of the world, would not mess up the system through the administrator account.
