Pics won't open
« on: June 18, 2008, 11:31:28 AM »
Just happened when I found this website to seek an answer.
Some websites have small pics that won't open, just show up with a small red x in the top corner.
How can I access these pics?
On one site I get the following in properties "HyperText Transfer Protocol--type not available".
My technical experience with computers is limited to what I learned in College, a Fortran class-with punchcards, so I need all the help I can get.
Thanks,
Jasper

thanks for the reply, I'll check it out.

Made the changes, and now I get a box with three icons, a red square, a blue circle, and a black diamond instead of a red x. When the download completes, it goes back to a red x.

We need more info about your system
This may help, although not malware related, gives more details
Download Hijackthis Installer from HERE
For an alternate download location, you can try HERE
SAVE it to your desktop
Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run it
Choose Install

Hijackthis v2.0.2 will open

Under Main Menu, Select
Do a system scan and save a Log file
A log will open in Notepad

That does show malicious entries, the trick will be getting the proper tools to run on Vista

First however, I must have you disable Windows Defender so as it won't interfere with any fixes we try
Leave it disable till we are clear here please
Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start button
Click All Programs, and then click Windows Defender.
Click Tools, and then click Options.
Under Administrator options,
clear the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save
**If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

==Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune.
Save it to your desktop
======================================
RIGHT CLICK on ATF-Cleaner.exe and Select "Run as Administrator"
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
Exit

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: CDLPObj Object - {BE2ED590-CA49-46B5-8CCE-244FB2E0D1AA} - C:\Windows\mpcodecplg.dll

O3 - Toolbar: IE Custom Tools - {41F6170D-6AF8-4188-8D92-9DDAB3C71A78} - C:\Program Files\Video Add-on Setup\ictmdl.dll (file missing)

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.36 85.255.112.98

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Afterwards
download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.

  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Along with the log from Malwarebytes AntiMalware

Please do the following
Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your desktop.
Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post back just the Whole contents of Main.txt and Extra.txt

Please go to Start >> Run and type or copy/paste the following in the run box:

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft
 Then press Enter

    * Click on the Scan button.
    * Select everything it is displaying there
    * Click the Fix button.
    * Then rescan with DAFT again - it should say now that "All associations are OK"
    * Close DAFT if you receive that message. This means that it is fixed now.

Afterwards:
RIGHT CLICK on the Hijackthis shortcut on desktop and choose to "Run As Adminstrator"

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LanzarL2007] "C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local\Temp\{71C2B47A-31B3-4B5F-8088-D15AAF3B687A}\{D1DA2BA7-2592-4036-9BB2-DCCABDE8DC1A}\..\..\L2007tmp\Setup.exe" /SETUP:"/l0x0009"
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://click.getmirar.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://click.mirarsearch.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://redirect.mirarsearch.com (HKLM)

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.36 85.255.112.98
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.36 85.255.112.98

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot the computer

Back in Windows
Run a fresh scan and save logfile with Hijackthis and post the new log please

What a week! First my server had problems, and then Vista did a SP1 update and now my other computer is all screwed up. No sound and it keeps having fatal errors and re-starting.
Still trying.

Any update here?
Have you tried the Vista disk and restore to before the Vista update was applied?
