I have a 22'' LCD monitor and i run COD4 in 1680*1050 @ max refresh rate (i think it is 70, idk, but it worked for 3 months without a hitch). And for Steam games i didn't change neither resolution nor refresh rate

Did you take a look at the link I supplied?
That's all you have to report back ?

Did you try this suggestion?
Quote
4) Still not working?
Make sure that your Firewall or your Anti-Virus (Norton Anti-Virus is well known for doing this) doesn't block the hl.exe and hl2.exe:
A good test to see if this is the problem would be to temporarely disable the firewall and attempt to launch the game
***ImportenT*** REMMEBER TO TURN YOUR FIREWALL BACK ON AFTER YOU FINISH THE TEST!!!

Are you actually properly installing all games??
It's really hard to pinpoint what the problem may be

You have Windows installed in your C: folder and Program Files folder split between C: and D:
What's the reason behind this?

Since you did a clean install, was Stardock and Rocketdock some of the first programs you reinstalled?
Or are they leftovers

Personally, If I did a Clean install, I would ensure I have Video, sound, motherboard drivers installed
Get latest Windows updates
Install AntiVirus

Try install COD and see if it runs
If it does, could be all the other eye candy you have installed

I have 5 partitions: C- Windows & Drivers, D-Programs, E-Video, F-games, G-Other.

On C disk are only windows and drivers for motherboard, graphic card, sound card, etc. On other disks i install what it says and i put shortcuts on the desktop.
Stardock and Rocketdok are docks from Windows XP black edition. When i re-installed windows, i installed all drivers and updated them. As for games, i think i install them properly, had no problems with them till now.

I have installed Avast, COD4 still crashes at start.

As for program files, there are program files folder on each disk separately.

And for last, what do you mean by eye candy ? http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Eye candy, I was referring to Stardock, rocketdock
Trying to remove anything from the equation

Can you try uninstalling Comodo and Avast
Ensure to reboot the computer

Then try the game again, doesn't work, as supplied by link I gave you
Uninstall the game and reinstall

See if it helps

Edit>>Still curious if you looked at the link I supplied earlier???

when i re-installed windows, no firewalls or antivirus were installed. I tried COD4 and it crashed. Now i have installed Avast and Comodo, COD4 crashed again. I have no more ideas http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

I will give it to get repaired so we will see ^^

EDIT: And as for Stardock, i uninstalled it and it still crashes http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
really no luck ...

Steam is uninstalled btw, so i didn't do that solutions.

Ok, but I seen this post that you made
http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76547

So I'm not sure if your actually clean installing or installing over the top of an existing OS.
If your going to use D: as an extension of C:
Why not format D: also
You can do it ahead of time in Computer Management

Then boot with XP CD and Format and install to C:
Then start fresh adding in your drivers, Virus scanners (Hold off on installing Comodo) and Programs

First move any files/folders you may need to a seperate partition

Just an option before bringing it in
