XP antivirus & other viruses/scams
« on: July 26, 2008, 05:58:27 PM »
My first problem:

I'm sure you've all heard of the XP Antivirus virus. (A virus called XP Antivirus) You usually have to installit from their website right? Well, I don't. It comes up with a pop-up saying something like:

If your computer is infected with malward or adware it may cause data loss or erratic computer behaviour. Click here to get a 100% FREE scan to remove any malware that may be on your computer.

I can't remember exactly what it says but it's something like that. When I click cancel or close the pop-up it opens up a website and pretends to be scanning my computer, saying I have something like 7000 viruses on my computer. If I wait until the end of the 'scan' it tries to install the program on to my computer and starts downloading. I have never let it. Even with pop-up blocker on it still comes up. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

My second problem:

Most of the time when I'm on the internet pop-up web pages open up and run through a bunch of random pages until it gets to a site called "Livefreesearch" or another one called something like "Myonlinedirectory"

Same as the XP Antivirus, pop-up blocker won't do help.

Anyone know how to stop them?

Sudden brainwave RIGHT as I'm about to post. Maybe I have to block the sites. And that's why it goes through so many different sites. So Iwill never have enough time to block all of them. Possibly I will have to block them one by one until there are no more pages to go through. But that's just my opinion. Anyone else got any ideas?
