Let's try the following again
go to Start - Run, and copy/paste the following (then press OK):

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

When the DSS Configuration display opens click the "Check All" button (if the "Uncheck All" button shows, click that, then click "Check All"). Next, Under Main Log, uncheck the following:
System Restore
Temp Cleanup

Then under Options, place a check next to the following:
Backup Registry Hives
Don't make any other changes at this time. Then click the "Scan!" button to start the scan.
Allow this to run if prompted by Zone Alarm

When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post back the Whole contents of Main.txt and Extra.txt

Sorry for the delay
Download and save to your Desktop
 OTScanIt
Double-click on it's icon.
A folder named OTScanIt will be created on your desktop and files will automatically be extracted to it.

Open the OTScanIt folder and double-click OTScanIt to start the program.

    * Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
    * When the scan is complete Notepad will open containing the results of the scan.

Post the whole contents of that log please

It's been some time since you were back
Can you let me know the Exact Make and model of your computer

In addition
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from >>here<< and save it to your desktop.
 • Double click on RSIT.exe and run it, that was meant for a Vista system
 • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
 • Your firewall may alert you that RSIT is requesting Internet access. Please allow it.
 • Once it has finished, two logs will open:  log.txt<-- this will be maximized and info.txt<-- this will be minimized.
Can you post Both those logs please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

When you insert a card into the Memory reader in the front
Then open MyComputer, is the letter assigned to the media?
Do you see it in MyComputer?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

If you go into Device Manager
by Right clicking on MyComputer>>Select Properties>>Hardware>>Device manager

Do you see any kind of yellow exclamation marks or problems?

Are you trying the same media all the time
Or is it all media not being recognized

Do you have another memory stick as eg.. to try in the media reader?

I'm going to direct you to a link
from HP(Compaq)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...ocname=bph07910

Scroll down to "Memory card does not appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer"

Take note of step 4 and 5 in particular
and the other link related to "USB Device Troubleshooting in Windows 98, ME, and XP "

Let me know if any of it helps

Reset the cable connections and memory card firmware:

Remove the side of the computer case by unscrewing the two retaining screws on the back of the computer and sliding the side panel towards the rear of the computer. Set the panel aside.
Find and disconnect the cable from the back of the card reader and leave it disconnected.
Figure 7: Example of one type or rear connection on the reader (your PC may be different)

Make sure that the other end of the cable is properly connected to the motherboard or an electronic card that comes off of the motherboard. Make sure that the unconnected end of the cable is not touching any electronics inside and is not in the way of any fans.
Figure 8: Example of the connector on the motherboard (your PC may be different)

Replace the computer side panel and turn on the computer.
After Windows starts to the desktop, wait about five minutes for Windows to make the necessary hardware changes.
Turn off the computer and remove the computer side panel.
Reconnect the cable into the back of the card reader, replace the side panel, and turn on the computer.
Check to see if the drives appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer:
If the memory card drives appear in Windows and work correctly you are done.
If the memory card drives do not appear in Windows, the drive may need to be serviced or replaced.

This is the main thing I did.   Sorry.
