minor but annoying issue

Guestolo, so my CD burner recognizes, plays, and rips every type of cd humanly possible... but when i try to burn one, no matter what program i use (itunes, WMP, ext.) it gives an unknown error and ejects the disk.  I have made sure that the drive is set to DMA if possible and even uninstalled/reinstalled the drive.  So far nothing.  This was never a problem in the past and i am using the same brand of CD that i always have.  Any help would be useful, here is my HJT log.

Is that all you get, is just an unknown error
Or do you have the error message?

In addition, can I just check on something
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as Export.bat

should produce on your desktop

the error message i get from itunes says "An unknown error has occured (error 4450)" and WMP gives tell me to insert a blank cd even when the one i just put in was brand new.

Can you try the following

=Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box

now my computer is telling me i need to reinstall itunes because it cannot recognize the proper drives for CD importing/burning. http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' /> same holds true for other CD burning software.

It may be that you might have a conflict with those programs

Try the following and see if the error messages go away
=Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix2.reg

Save this file on the desktop
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box

How many recording programs do you have installed
Are you willing to try some troubleshooting

As in uninstalling your recording software
Including Roxio and Itunes

run fix.reg again

 and uninstall your CD/DVD drive from device manager
Reboot your computer

Your drive should be autodetected and reinstalled

Then reinstall only Itunes for now
I don't have Itunes installed, but see if you can record with it

so i did the last step and the computer recognizes the drives now obviously, but itunes still gives me the error saying that the registry files used by the itunes drivers for importing/burning cds and dvds are missing.  it said to reinstall itunes to correct the problem but even after doing that, it continues to give me the same error message as itunes loads.

Did you download the latest version from their website, or was it from a disk?

What version of Windows Media Player do you have
Can you burn with it?

According to the Apple article
We should leave Upperfilters alone and only remove Lower

Try this
=Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix3.reg

Save this file on the desktop
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box

still having issues, even when trying to erase an RW disk... i get the error that it is Scratched/Damaged no matter which disk i put in. The advanced error page gives me the following.

Im sorry, the problem persists when trying to burn or erase disks in any program used.  The program in question that was used for erasing an RW disk was IBM RecordNow!  My itunes came from the apple website, it is their latest version and that seems to be what has caused the problem if i remember when it started.  However i have deleted itunes all together but things are still not right.  No program I use will allow me to write/burn/erase disks.

How long have you had Daemon Tools installed?
Just before the problem started?

Within Daemon tools, can you double check that Safedisc Emualtion is unchecked
If it's checked, uncheck, reboot and see what happens

I have had Daemon Tools installed for quite awhile, and have always had safedisk emulation off. That has never given me any problems in the past.
