MsMpEng.exe taking up too much CPU

I don't know how to stop it, if possible, in addition to fixing the problem, are there any ways I can expand my CPU without any hardware intervention? Thanks for all help.

It's part of Windows Defender
What operating system are you running?

Better yet, can you post a Hijackthis log in the Tech Clinic section of the forums
