Might have a virus
« on: November 21, 2008, 03:55:15 PM »
Well I downloaded a game and then after I installed it of course I noticed someone said there was a virus in it... I downloaded a trial of Kapersky and did a scan of the games folder but it found nothing, however when I restarted my computer it was pretty slow to start up so I don't know.

Anyway I have a log if that helps

Let's take a closer look

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from >>here<< and save it to your desktop.
 • RIGHT click on RSIT.exe and "Run as Administrator"
 • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
 • Your firewall may alert you that RSIT is requesting Internet access. Please allow it.
 • Once it has finished, two logs will open:  log.txt<-- this will be maximized and info.txt<-- this will be minimized.
Post both those logs please

Just want to check one file

go to this link

http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
Copy and paste the following bold line to the space next to  'Upload a File'
If using Firefox, you may have to paste to the Filename field of the File Upload box that opens
Or Browse to the file

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\apzvkydc.sys
Then use the SEND FILE button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results this scan back here please
Or better yet, just link to the results page

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

It could be that file was/is related to Daemon tools

I would opt to do the following
Quote
I downloaded a trial of Kapersky and did a scan of the games folder but it found nothing
Why not ensure it's updated and run a full system scan, see if it finds anything

Also, Download GMER.zip from here:
http://www.gmer.net/files.php

Unzip it to the Desktop.

Right click on Gmer.exe and "Run as Adiministrator" - you should see the Rootkit / Malware tab.
Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for ‘Show All’.
Click on Scan.
When the scan has run click Copy and paste the results (if any) into this thread.

Sorry I was away this weekend so I didn't see your response

But I found out where the virus was and made sure not to open it and then removed the trial of Kapersky because it was kind of annoying http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Anyway thank you for all the help http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
