Another yoog victim
« on: December 06, 2008, 03:18:04 PM »
I too am having the same problem. I have tried Ad-aware, Spybot, Malwarebytes, and Superantispyware. Still getting popups and the Yoog search. I ran Combofix and attached the log. It all happened on 12/3/08.  Downloaded a bad file and I know exactly what happened but now I can't fix it.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: After looking at the log file, I found this...

2008-12-03 20:46 . 2008-12-03 20:46    84,982    --a------    c:\windows\vtj708346.exe
2008-12-03 20:46 . 2008-12-03 20:46    78,636    --a------    c:\windows\system32\lybdesdvngpfrhiam.exe

I have no idea what these are.

I have no idea what these are.

We'll deal with those in a bit, can you do the following for me, I just want a double check
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from >>here<< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to launch program.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Your firewall may alert you that RSIT is requesting Internet access. Please allow it.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:  log.txt<-- this will be maximized and info.txt<-- this will be minimized.
Can you post Both those logs please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Can you do me a favor
You installed MalwareByte's Anti-Malware yesterday it appears
Can you reopen MBAM
Check for updates

Ensure it is updated to at least the following database>>1467

If there's an update, it will prompt update successful
After updating
  • Click the Scanner tab
  • click Scan.

  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

The RSIT log and the Combofix log wouldn't work when I pasted them so i will upload them.  When I open Firefox, i still get the "Yoog" search bar and popups.

In Firefox, beside the address bar is the Search engine bar
Can you use the drop down box>>Select Manage Search Engines
If YOOG is listed, can you highlight it and remove it

Restart Firefox, does that help?

Can you close Firefox, manually navigate to this folder
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

Open it and delete anything to do with Yoog
Let me know if that helps

P.S. I have to leave shortly, won't be back on till later
If I can find the installer for this one, I can try removing it myself

If not, you can try uninstalling Firefox after we backup bookmarks
Delete Firefox folders manually
reinstall Firefox

I ended up uninstalling firefox and reinstalling.  I also went into my registry and did a search for all "yoog" terms and deleted them.  This seemed to work.  So far, no more popups and the yoog search is gone.  I'll let you know if anything comes back.

Once again Guestolo, thank you so much for your help.  I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

Delete RSIT.exe on desktop and it's folder
C:\rsit

Go to START>>RUN>>copy and paste the following then click OK

ComboFix /u

This will uninstall ComboFix and it's components

Access your Add and Remove Programs
We should remove older versions and updates of Java
ONLY leave the following Java installed>>Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 11

and Remove these versions
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 2
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 3
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 5
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 7
Javaâ„¢ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

I would also uninstall
Viewpoint Media Player if you didn't purposely install it

OTMoveit3.exe
  • Double click on OTMoveIt3.exe to run it
  • Click the Cleanup! button
A list will be downloaded>>Allow it Internet access if prompted by your Firewall
Don't change anything in this list
  • Select Yes at the prompt
Wait for the confirmation box to open to reboot the computer
Don't mouseclick during the wait as you may cause the tool to stall
  • Select Yes to reboot Now
NOTE: This procedure will also delete OTMoveit.exe from desktop
I suggest that you add SpywareBlaster to your protection software
SpywareBlaster  by JavaCool
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
Select Manual updating when installing
After installation, Check for updates
After updating, select "Protection Status" on the Left
Then select "Enable all Protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
or again, click on Protection Startus>>enable all protection

Take a look at miekiemoes site with other ideas on How to prevent Malware:

I also PM'ed you, can you check your messages please
