vga probs in upgrading OS
« on: December 20, 2002, 09:21:10 AM »
Hi all. I just upgraded from win98 to win2000. I\'ve tried 3 complete installations with the same result. I have also done the same install on a different computer which worked fine. Question is why is it under Display--> settings that it shows 16 colors(not 16 bit) and also my dial to change my pixels maxs out at 640x480 resolution which is about half of normal. My text is huge. Any help appreciated.

Follow up on own post. Ok it\'s a samtron 75e monitor. I have the same monitor on another computer which runs xp and it works fine. Strange thing is on the samtron website it shows their are no drivers available for win2000 or xp. And on a third pc windows2000 works fine with a different monitor so a corrupt win2000cd isn\'t the problem is my thinking. I\'ve also tried 3 clean installs on the problem system to no avail. Device manager is not recognizing a plug and play moniter whereas in the other two systems it is. In Device manager their is a yellow ? mark under Other Devices. Under this heading it has a yellow ? under 1)multimedia audio controller, 2)pci device, and 3) video controller vga compatable. Is for some reason win2000 is not compatable with the monitor since it can\'t recognize the driver, or does it sound like something else since the driver is recognized on xp with the same monitor. TIA
