I accidentally had my pop-up blocker disabled and a window opened and installed malware onto my computer. The original malware name was VirusRemover2008. That has since beem deletd from my computer, however; there seems to be more going on then just the installation of a fake spyware program.

The following is an account of the symptoms my computer displays:

1) On initialization of OS, windows error box appears: "Error Loading C;\Windows\Clakeyifeg.dll
The specefied module could not be found"

2) Spysweeper scan always finds "trojan-agent-tdss". But can never seem to rid the computer of it.

3) Norton scan always finds "Hacktool.Root-Kit". But can never seem to rid the computer of it.

4) "Folder Options" to show hidden files and folder has been deleted from the computer.

5) All Internet sites are corrupted. Most jpeg/gif images won't display.

6) About 30 minutes after the OS initializes an error report appears: "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any incovenience. Send/Don't Send Error"

Upon clicking "Don't Send" an error box appears with a timer: "Shutdown was initiated by NT Authority/System. System must restart because DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly"

If I don't type "shutdown -a" in Run, then sytem restarts after countdown.

Can you please do the following
Download Hijackthis Installer from [color=\"#FF0000\"]HERE[/color]
For an alternate download location, you can try HERE
SAVE it to your desktop
Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run it
Choose Install

Hijackthis v2.0.2 will open

Under Main Menu, Select
Do a system scan and save a Log file
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and Paste the Whole log back here to the forum----It is all important!

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

[color=\"#2e8b57\"]**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply

NOTE: Do not mouseclick inside ComboFix window as it's running, it may cause it to stall
ComboFix will run again on startup, it will prompt that it's creating a log
This process could take up to 10 minutes, let it run uninterrupted please

Still a bit of work to do
Can you disable SpySweeper realtime protections temporarily

Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]> ATF Cleaner <[/color] by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.

Double Click on ATF-Cleaner.exe to Run it
Check the boxes to the left of:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
*Prefetch (Windows XP) only.
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit from the Main menu

download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to [color=\"#006400\"]Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware[/color] and [color=\"#006400\"]Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware[/color], then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

1. With that log from MBAM
2. Can you run a fresh scan and Save logfile with Hijackthis and post it's contents
3.Also, supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4

Don't reboot the computer till the last one is uninstalled
Then please Reboot the computer
Back in Windows

Delete the Flash uninstaller from desktop

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
Scroll down to where it says "JRE 6 Update 12".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
In the Window that opens, select Windows,>>Check the "agree" box and click Continue.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u12-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

Update your Flash, using Internet Explorer
go to the following link
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

Allow ActiveX control install when prompted
DO NOT install any Toolbar related software, unless preferred
UNTICK the selection to install any

After you have updated Flash for IE
Then install Flash for Firefox
Using the Firefox browser, again go to the following link
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Download/save to desktop the Flash installer
Close Firefox
Run the installer to install latest flash

Update Adobe Reader
Go to the following link
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Download and Install the latest
NOTE: When installing, if you have the option to untick any Toolbars, etc.. they may add to the installer
Choose NOT to install any, they are not needed for the A. Reader to function properly
That really goes with any free software, if a toolbar is not needed or wanted, why install it

Post back that log from ComboFix, in addtion
Post one last Hijackthis log and let me know how things are still running please

1) After a system scan, Spysweeper found "virtumonde" adware and successfully removed it. Norton found "Trojan.Wimal" and successfully removed it.
System seems to be clean; however, Internet sites still won't display graphics/submit buttons as stated in #5 of my first post. Removed IE7 and Firefox from my computer and reinstalled,
IE7 only, but symptom still is displayed. Besides that all other symptoms have been fixed.

2) Followed the instructions to update Java; however, I got this error when trying to run the install file: "This installation package could not be opened verify that the package exists
and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows package"

Tried installing several times to no avail. Found that I had a 32 bit browser and tried to install JRE 5.0 since JRE 6.0 is for 64-bit browsers. Still got the same message.

3) Followed the instructions to update Flash for IE and that was installed successfully.

4) Followed the instructions to update Adobe Reader; however, I got the same error message as when trying to update Java, #2

When you are downloading both Java and Adobe Reader
Are you actually saving the installers to your desktop? Or you running them from the location you click on

Ensure to Save the installer to your desktop and install from that location

Yes, I installed it to the desktop. The only thing I can think of that might of messed something up is that during the process of uninstalling ViewPoint Media Player, Adobe Reader 7.0, and
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 4---I deleted an extraneous program after Adobe Reader 7.0 and due to not paying attention to a pop-up window, it restarted the computer---then after the restart I uninstalled J2SE Runtime Environemnt update 4 and restarted the computer again.

Your instructions said not to restart until all three had first been uninstalled.

Can you download a Fresh copy of Java 6 update 12 from the link I supplied earlier and save it to your desktop
DO NOT install it yet

download [color=\"#2E8B57\"]JavaRa[/color]
Save it then unzip it to your Desktop.

**Close any instances of Internet Explorer or other Browsers before continuing!***

* Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
* From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
* JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
* Click Yes when prompted.
* When JavaRa is finished, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
* A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Reboot the computer
Try installing that fresh copy of Sun Java

Post that log from JavaRA, also include a fresh hijackthis log

Followed the instructions and encountered the same error. When running JavaRa, I closed all browsers but left my internet connection on.

In regards to "images not being displayed in web browser"-- problem was resolved.

Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced-->Multimedia-->Show Pictures
