Author Topic: Error message 1327 and slow laptop... hjt log inside.... (Read 1402 times)

hi got my moms computer here it keeps giveing me "error 1327.Invalid Drive: E:/" anytime i try to del or install a program.
first it was when i was installing the new quicktime or del the old one.... but i used "Windows Install clean up" tool to get rid of the old one and the new one went over fine.
Now when i try and install the new adobe reader it also throws that error,,, even tho the old version is del.
Ive googled this error and everyone says to edit the reg but none of mine seem to be set to (E:)

whats going on?? I assume this will pop up in the future with more programs.

thanks if you guys can figure this out.
p.s. as for all the toolbars im ganna giver heck for that and ask what one she wants to keep if any.

I may not see your reply till later as I'm off to bed soon, but can you do the following in the meantime
Download [color=\"blue\"]random's system information tool (RSIT)[/color] by [color=\"#6600cc\"]random/random[/color] from >>[color=\"red\"]here[/color]<< and save it to your desktop.

Double click on RSIT.exe and choose to Run it
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Your firewall may alert you that RSIT is requesting Internet access. Please allow it.
Once it has finished, two logs will open: log.txt[color=\"red\"]<-- this will be maximized[/color] and info.txt[color=\"red\"]<-- this will be minimized[/color].

Post both those logs please

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05

Do you get the same error message?

ok also not sure if its related...ive tryed to do a mcafee full system scan and the computer will shut down in the middle of it at some point. I then tryed a quick scan and it finished and found nothing....i set all known power settings to where it doesnt hybernate and tryed a full scan again and the comp shut down this time after only 1%......

no there is no my pictures in my start menu,,, i was just talking to her and she normally uses a external hdd to store pics on,,,as she has alot and there large files. not sure what letter its supposed to be as the hdd isnt at my house.

only toolbar she wants to keep is google. im trying to del others now.

im trying to clean off "Future Photo Print Wizard" but get the error message

I assume she doesn't always have the external running, and XP's registry is looking in the wrong locations

Since we have backups, have her ensure her External drive is not powered on, leave it off if it is off

Then,
Have her create a .reg file

Hit OK

It worked no error message this time yippie!!
so basicly what did you really do,,,,, is there any problems going to arise when i take the laptop back and try and plug in the external drive?
java 2 and future photo wisard are both gone now......im going to try and add the new adobe reader now see if it works
also whats your guess on the full scan shut down issue??? after the adobe installs maybe ill try it again.

No, I don't think she'll have a problem, as the pics are still there are her external drive
I'm thinking one of the programs, or the way she transfers pics to the external has set that entry in the registry, causing the fault
Maybe if she can go through MyComputer and just copy/paste the pics to her E: drive may be best

Can you post back a fresh Hijackthis log and a new Uninstall list from Hijackthis, let's see where we stand as of now

ok cool ill do that...looks like my pictures came back into the start menu....ill have to ask her what she think happened. I wonder if she just tryed to drag and drop or cut&p the mypictures link from the start menu or something like that to transfer them over?? ohh yah and adobe reader installed fine also....next ill try a full system scan and see if it shuts down.... she said it shut down anytime but it hasnt on me uless i did a fullscan.

yep again the computer just shut down after like 1% of the scan, turned right off.... kinda pointless to have a virus scanner if it isnt scanning right haha
also i knowticed that theres still 2 norton folders located under c: can i just del them from there to get rid of them? norton was cleaned off the computer with there norton unistaller program.
what should I do about this shut down problem??

What version of McAfee is installed on this computer?

Can you also do the following
Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]> ATF Cleaner <[/color] by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.

Double Click on ATF-Cleaner.exe to Run it
Check the boxes to the left of:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
*Prefetch (Windows XP) only.
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit from the Main menu

download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to [color=\"#006400\"]Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware[/color] and [color=\"#006400\"]Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware[/color], then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

NOTE: if you are not required to reboot, after doing the above, can you reboot manually anyways
Startup may be a bit slower, as we have had ATF-Cleaner clear the Prefetch folder
Speed will increase as this folder is repopulated
