Are you having any other issues with your Burner besides that code?
Can you use your burner at all?

nope it doesn't work. I tried to play a cd, nothing happened. I tried to rip the cd , nothing. I dl a movie from a p2p place and that's when the trouble started. http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':huh:\' />   It's all my fault! Could I uninstall wmp and reinstall it? Or what??I dled hijackthis but nothing was checked, but I don't know how to read it. I hope you can help. Many thanks !

Don't worry about the Hijackthis log at the moment
Instead, can you do the following
Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]OTL.exe[/color][/url] by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Close all windows and double click on OTL.exe to run it
  • Close all windows and right click on OTL.exe and choose to "Run as Administrator"
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
NOTE: If you have any problems or error message posting back either of those logs, please UPLOAD them in a Reply box
When replying click on (Browse....) on the bottom right hand side of a Reply
Navigate to the file, select it and then click on UPLOAD

Oh the OTL stop with error msg---range error --?  I was using convert to dvd program but i have used it before.
Lots of stuff on that report, gee, that's what happens when other family use my computer. What shall we do next?

Did you have Itunes installed and then have since uninstalled it?
Did you have any virtual emulating cd software such as Daemon tools installed and removed it?

Did the problems start after running RegistryBooster?

No to Itunes, I don't know what virtual emulating cd is but I doubt it.
I did run the registry booster last night.I didn't have drivers before or after that.

You are a GENIOUS!! it's working as far as playing cds and dvds. I'm going to try to burn a movie. First i need to make some room on C:
I forgot to save the log, it said the filters were there. I think.
Do you have any suggestions for deleting files nd programs?

I'm sorry, I meant programs AND files. I don't know what to delete after a back up. So I guess you noticed I don't have much room left on C: drive. Dont worry bout it . That is small stuff after what you just did for me !  Thanks again, Star

Yes, I did notice your running out of room,

Can you still do the following
We should update your version of Sun Java to help plug security holes that malware can use to infect your computer
Close down all browser windows
Open Programs and Features in Windows Control Panel
Uninstall
Javaâ„¢ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
you can also remove
HijackThis 2.0.2


You can manually delete Systemlook.exe and it's file it created

RIGHT Click on OTL.exe and choose to "Run as Administrator"
  • Click the CleanUp button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes

After you have rebooted
[color=\"blue\"]Updating Java:[/color]
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "JRE 6 Update 16".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select Windows, beside PLATFORM:>>Check the "agree" box and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Then from your desktop double click on jre-6u16-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded, to install the newest version.
NOTE: Java may install a Quick Starter service to run on startup which is really not needed
After installation, simply open the Java icon in Control Panel
Under Advanced tab, expand Miscellaneous, untick "Java Quick Starter" if selected
Apply and Ok it, then exit the Java control panel
A reboot will be required to properly disable the Quick Starter service

You can delete the Java installer after successful installation

I would be careful with running any Registry tool
It can cause more harm than good at times, your call

Make sure you don't just manually delete a Folder related to a Program
A program should be properly uninstalled
