Files disappearing

recently I have noticed files disappear from the explorer list. I know I didnt delete them.
Using XP, fully updated. Would appreciate someone taking a look at the HJT log below - just for reassurance
virus scans come up clean.

However I am concerned by the [NeoChronos] entry

Its a dual boot system - with Vista, I installed it toplay with but rarely use it, and have almost no apps set up in Vista.
I have rebooted into Vista. Then renamed the XP folder (its actually D: when booted to Vista on C:)
C:\Documents and Settings\allans\Local Settings\Temp
as
C:\Documents and Settings\allans\Local Settings\Temp2
then rebooted back into XP - 'cos thats where all my apps are.

Having rebooted - new HJT log below -
I see that 2 services are missing - the b.exe and msa
both I believe are associated with NeoChronos

Thats it - Im hands off now, wont make any more changes until advised.

Can you try the following

Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]ATF-Cleaner[/color] by Atribune.
Save it to your desktop
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
      Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
      NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

      Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
      NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
       
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
       
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
       
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply
Extra Note:

Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
       
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
       
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
       
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply

Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]OTL.exe[/color][/url] by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Close all windows and double click on OTL.exe to run it
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

NOTE: If you have trouble, or an error message trying to post the logs

In a Reply, select "Browse..." on the bottom right and then navigate to the file and select it

Can you run an Online Virus scan
Temporarily disable your realtime protection with your own Virus scanner so it won't interfere with this scan
With Avast, simply right click on it's icon by the clock and choose to "Stop On Access Protections"
Ok the prompt
Go to the following link [color=\"#0000FF\"]ESET Online Scanner[/color][/url]
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
       
  • Click Start
       
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
       
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
       
  • Click Scan (This scan can take awhile, so please be patient)
       
  • Once the scan is completed, you may close the window
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
       
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Can you do the following
Close down all browser windows, access your Add and Remove programs and remove the older version/update of Sun Java

Uninstall>>Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 7
you can also uninstall Eset Online Scanner

I suggest that you add SpywareBlaster to your protection software
SpywareBlaster  by JavaCool  
At the link you can read more about it then continue with
Free Download on the right>>Continue Download at next page
Basically it
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
    *Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
    *Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
Select Manual updating when installing
After installation, Check for updates
After updating, select "Protection Status" on the Left
Then select "Enable all Protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
or again, click on Protection Startus>>enable all protection


Double click OTL.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

You may opt to hold onto Malwarebytes AntiMalware
Update and run a quick scan occassionally
you can also open Malwarebytes, Open the Quarantine tab and delete all
