Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.
 • Close all windows and double click on OTL.exe to run it
 • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
 • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
 • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

NOTE: If you have trouble, or an error message trying to post the logs
Can you upload it to a reply box
In a Reply, select "Browse..." on the bottom right and then navigate to the file and select it

 • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

It may be related to older software on your computer
Let's take a look
Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
 • Save it to your Desktop.
 • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
 • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Sluggish Bootup
« Reply #7 on: February 01, 2010, 11:34:30 PM »
Old software could be the cause of slowdowns
Let's do the following
Print the following, or save the instructions to desktop for convienence
Close down all browser windows
Access your Add and Remove Programs and remove the following

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 11
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 7
Adobe Reader 7.0

Reboot the computer after all has been removed
Back in Windows

You now need the updated Adobe Reader
Go to the following link
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Untick any option for additonal toolbar or other software, you just need Adobe Reader
Save the installer to desktop then run it
After you have successfully installed the new Adobe Reader
with AR open click on HELP>>Check for Updates
Just to ensure that Adobe Reader is right up to date

Updating Java:
 • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) .
 • Scroll down to where it says "JDK 6 Update 18 (JDK or JRE)".
 • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
 • In the Window that opens, select Windows,>>Check the "agree" box and click Continue.
 • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
 • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u18-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
NOTE: Java installs a Quick Starter service that is not required
And does use system resources on startup
If you feel you don't need it running
Go to START>>Control Panel>>Open the Java icon
Open the ADVANCED tab
Expand on MISCELLANEOUS>>UNTICK JAVA QUICK STARTER
APPLY and OK out of there

Reboot the computer

Come back here and run a fresh scan and Save logfile with Hijackthis and let me know how things are now running
NOTE: Security check sees McAfee as Outdated, Is It?
Are you able to updated it, or has it's subscription expired?

I'm downloading adobe and JRE now. Will post a fresh hijackthis log after this.

I think this has something to do with my sluggish bootup. ATI Catalyst Control Center pops up an error message saying "You do not have permission to change the settings of ATI Catalyst Control Center. Please contact your administrator" upon bootup. It doesn't pop up all the time though.

I tried opening the ATI Catalyst Control Center manually and yes it took almost forever to open. Could this be the culprit?

Please post the fresh Hijackthis after you have done the last steps, then we'll try and deal with that error message

let's try and deal with that error related to ATI CCC first, then we still have to update a bit of software
and/or uninstall and install new software

The error could be related to corrupt .Net Framework
Close down all browser windows, enter Add and Remove Programs
Highlight Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and then click on the Change/remove button
After a bit, select the REPAIR option and click NEXT

Follow the prompts, reboot when done
Is that error now gone?

I've repaired microsoft .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and after rebooting the bootup was even slower than before. Also the same error popped up with ATI CCC.

Only the bootup is slow though. Once everything is booted up system runs perfectly fine.

Ok, let's step back a bit
Are you planning on renewing McAfee or do you want to uninstall it completely and install a free version of AV?
