Cannot Connect to Wireless Networks
« on: June 12, 2010, 06:28:35 PM »
I am unable to connect to wireless networks on my laptop. I moved away from my normal default wireless networks, and was not on the internet for quite some time. Now every time I attempt to go on and connect to a wireless network, I highlight wireless icon on the toolbar and it states that wireless networks are available. Once I click it says there are no networks to be found. I've determined that my wireless card is working because I went through some diagnostic menus and whatnot and it was able to find the networks that I have been looking for. I am very confused, and have never had a problem connecting to the internet before. I have a switch on the left front corner of my laptop and it is in the on position but the light is not lit and this once used to blink. The wifi light on the right side of my keyboard however is lit. Please help me fix this annoyance. Thanks. Power-I

The first step is the following
Shut down your computer

Pull the power cords from both the Wireless Router and Modem
Leave them with no power for at least 3 minutes

After which time, ONLY plug the power into the back of the Modem
Wait 2 minutes then plug the power into the Wireless router

Wait an additional 2 minutes, Start your computer and let it fully load. Then try connecting to your Wireless SSID
It may help, let me know please

I can't follow those steps because I'm at my beach house, in which we do not have internet access. I only have the password for my neighbors wireless, and the wireless strength is very good on every other laptop in the house. My computer is telling me that it sees these networks but it comes up with nothing when I try to connect to one of them.

You will have to get have your neighbor try those steps then, it's hard to troubleshoot without direct access to the router

Eugine, I don't think you even read the whole topic, I'm now locking it as I assume the original posters problems are now resolved
