I tried restarting my computer just now and it got to the desktop but then the screen went black but the computer tower was still on, I had to unplug it to get it off.

Guestolo, to also give you more information about Mengsx problem is... When you turn on the computer and it boots into windows, the computer monitor will go black. The computer is still running, but after about a minute or two the computer will shut down. I'm assuming this is a power supply issue. I am not sure, but any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Another update... Just went to the store and replaced the power supply. At fist the computer did not boot up. It went on for a milli second and then shut off. Not even enough time for the fans to turn over. So, I took out all the ram chips except for one. The computer booted up normally right away. Then, tragedy struck once again. After loading the processes computer screen went black. This time there was a funny noise like an old printer. It sounded like the computer was trying to re-boot itself, this noise was at a stead interval every 2 seconds or so.

So, I'm planning on swapping out the ram chip with another one that was in the computer before and retry the boot process.

So, I don't remember where I left off, but I'm sure you'll get a good laugh out of this. I ended up taking the heat sink off the processor, cleaning the processor and heat sink head with 91% isopropyl alchol. Then I applied artic silver 5 paste (only a little bit) and tried booting the computer again. Long story short (no luck)

Maybe just try and replace the processor all together? I am just playing guessing games. http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Solved, the processor was overheating. The processor was ruined from overheating. I was able to replace the processor with an AMD Phenom processor. Make sure that you check that the processor is compatible with your mother board and also check to see if your motherboard has the correct retention bracket for the new processor/heatsink. We felt that our heatsink/fan had gone bad and that was what caused the processor to overheat. That is why we used the heatsink that came with the processor. (and had to get a new retention bracket)

SOLVED!!!!

Oh' and by the way, I am on my way to getting COMP TIA CERTIFIED!!!
