Cannot install Video Card
« on: February 27, 2003, 08:21:38 PM »
I have an IBM 2139E6U 400 Mhz Computer with WIndows 2000 installed on it. I receintly had Comp USA try to install a 64 MB video graphics card in it but they said when they put the card in it doesn\'t boot. (It has onboard graphics).

1.  Any idea why ?  I asked about another motherboard (they had many there) and they said get a new computer.

2. In Winodws 2000 how do you get rid of the screen that counts down from 30 secs at startup ? Can that screen be modified to count from a lower number ?

3.  Is there any way to get rid of the Acces Aptiva screen that comes up first ?

Thanks !

#1 Maybe you don't have a AGP slot only a PCI slot.

#2 You must be dual-booting to get the 30sec countdown. To change this right click on my computer and choose properties. Click on Advanced and click setting in Start and Recovery. There you will see Time To Display Operating Systems with the default of 30sec.

#3 Yes you need to get in the BIOS and disable the start up screen (Apitiva Screen)

If I were you I would get a new PC. Yours is very old and I certainly wouldn't buy a IBM, they are very cheap and low end. They are the worst I've ever seen.

One note: If it does have a AGP slot it will be a AGP2X slot which are not compatible with the newer 4X OR 8x APG cards.
