editing files inside .CAB
« on: March 11, 2003, 11:04:56 PM »
Is there a way to extract files from a cab, edit and recompress them without affecting the size of the cab ? I tried Winiso/Winrar combo but could not add the file inside the cab once it was extracted.
 Any help would be appreciated...

o sorry i forgot...Winzip editing/compressing/decompressing .cab files is news to me...when did they incorprate that feature??? has it always been there??? if it has i was REALLY in the dark because i used that for almost 2 years and never saw it. Makes sense though...i just thought it could only do .zip file\'s. Nice to know this...i guess :-)

I tried winzip, winrar and zip wrangler but I couldn\'t put the file back inside the cab without getting an error that I can\'t do that because it\'s not zip or rar archive...and when I was able to recompress the file using zip wrangler it changed the size of the cab...so I am looking for a program that would do that without changing the size..
Thanx for te suggestion..

Shariq..I just tried cabman and it\'s the closest I ever came to keeping the original cab size...insteadof 1320kb I got 1324kb with max compression...do you know  of other programs I can try ?...

I downloaded and tried powerarchiver but it didn\'t do the trick... the  (re)compressed cab  doesn\'t come  anywhere near  the original size..

Search the web for an app called CabPack 1.4 download it and it compresses .cab files  with the (exact) same size as it was.
note: you must use winrar or winzip to uncompress the file coz this app doesn't..

Good Luck

Try using Microsoft Cab SDK for developers... search it over yahoo!
it has 3 utills, comand line based... so read help /? it will do just fine.

but if it was IShield cab... that is a different story.
