WinXp Upgrade?
« on: March 12, 2003, 10:29:26 AM »
Hello everyone!

I\'ve been using a cracked WinXP for a while and now I would like to buy the real deal (yep, that\'s true).

Now, from what I can see, there are two versions of WinXP Home. One is upgrade for $99, and other is $199.
What does this upgrade mean? That I need to have a Win98SE (or some other upgrade compatible OS) already installed and than upgrade that installation, or I just need Win98 CD (WinXP installation just prompts for it?)
If thats the case, will it work with pirated Win98 CD?

So, if I would like to perform a clean install, would I need to buy this $199 version or will it work with $99?

Thank you.

Make sure you know what you are *NOT* getting with the xp home edition. There is alot not available with the home edition that is avail. with the pro. I heard with home you cannot even use a workgroup or something.

The home version has been rated anything but good. It might be the most limited version of windows yet...and yes im including windows 9x.

you can preform a clean install with the upgrade cd, BUT you MUST have a past OS on cd in order to get by with the upgrade version. the XP install will ask for the cd then continue on with the installation.

I also agree with The Space Between on XP home. it is very limiting as far as what you can and can not do with the system.

and FYI you can join XP home to a workgroup but you can\'t join it to a domain. and there are tons of tools and features that are just not there to use.
