I\'m new to an unattended install, so I have a question.  First of all, I\'ve gotten then actual unattended XP installation to work properly, EXCEPT for it copying files to my hard drive.  I want to run some setup programs from my hard drive, but I can\'t seem to get them TO the HD.  I have a $OEM$/$1 folder, which I\'ve tried on the root of the cd, and under the I386 folder.  Neither seems to copy to my HD.  Any clues?

You must have this in your answer file....

[Unattended]
OemPreinstall=Yes

I am struggling with the same problem but I do have OemPreinstall=Yes added to my unattend.txt and it still doesnt work. Where should the $OEM$$1 directory be located? In the I386 directory or on the root. Also, to what directory on the harddrive is it copied? Is the entire directory copied to the harddrive or just the files that are inside?

Do the files remain on the harddrive after the install is complete?

I just want to add the product key to my install, soo i don\'t have to type it in! I have tried using unatted.sif and unattent.txt

Name the answer file winnt.sif and place it the i386 folder. As far as the $OEM$ folder goes, if this is a CD - place it at the root of the cd. If this is a network installation then place it in I386. Also to create user accounts you can create batch files with the NET or NET USER commands and call the batch file from cmdlines.txt.

I have a problem, when i try to burn the $OEM$ directory to CD, i get a message that reads \"The following directory must be renamed to be compatible with the naming conventions of your CD file system\", any clue? im using Roxio Easy 5.3 thx

I keep re-visiting this $OEM$ business thinking I'll get it right if I really read about it, but end up giving up. I can't get anything to copy or install from this folder at all. I wanted to install the intel chipset inf install files for my motherboard, but even the documentation that was supplied from intel on how to add this to the $OEM$ folder gets so far then gives wrong information about what files are inside it's own extracted folders. I've tried to pre-install directX9 and nothing happened. A lot of advice given -- even on forums like these -- presume you know a fair bit to start with.

I've managed to work out how to pre-install hotfixes but that's it. I haven't had any answers as to how to add hotfixes that aren't the 'Q' one's if you know what I mean. It would be good to have a step-by-step guide as to how to pre-install things from an $OEM$ folder on a CD. When to use the $1 or $$ folders. It would be good to know whether this will work with home and oem versions also.

But why should I or anyone else expect someone to spend time doing this?

It is frustrating though.
