win2k dialer problem
« on: March 25, 2003, 08:50:27 AM »
I have installed win2k /sp3 twice with same results.  When I go to make a dun modem connection to my isp, it dials, does the handshake, then times out trying to verify the password.  Believe me I have spent literal hours trying any combination of checked and unchecked boxes for dialer options.  Simply no difference.  Now the interesting part.  I installed AOL and using my ex\'s account was easily able to connect.  Also tried a PeoplePC disk I got in the mail.   Let it install to point where it dialed local pop number and wanted me to enter info.  Instead brought up browser and it surfed fine.

So if these isp invasive dialers can connect, it has to be something with the win2k dialer.  Modem log says data compression  and something else not on but I have the boxes for those checked.   I really would either like to be able to fix the dialer or find a third party replacement that can override it like the PPC software does only letting me use my generic dun isp.  All third party dialers I found on internet are just add ons giving few more bells and whistles, not replacements.
