Unsupported printer driver
« on: October 01, 2011, 02:06:52 PM »
I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7.  When I tried to reinstall my printer software, I received a message saying something along the lines it wouldn't work on Windows 7.  Canon Easy Print program also tells me I have an unsupported printer and won't allow me to print.  I have a Canon Pixma iP6000D printer.  I've searched for drivers to download to solve the issue but I'm either being directed to Canon who doesn't have anything for me to download or I'm directed to websites asking me to join up, give my cell phone number and email, etc.  I just want the drivers so I can use my Canon Easy Print software. I'm able to use the printer for other things, just not with the Easy Print program, which I don't want to give up.

What version of Canon Easy Print program are you running?
Did it come preinstalled on your computer or is it an older version you installed yourself?

Ensure you have the latest Printer driver installed, it is supplied by Windows via Windows Update
Power on your Printer
Go to START>>Control Panel>>System and Security>>Windows Updates
Check for updates
Take a look under Optional updates and see if any Printer driver is selectable
If not, It may have already been installed

If the driver is already installed, you may optionally also want to install the Printer driver addon module supplied by Canon
Make sure to choose your correct operating system Windows 7 '32 or 64bit'

I tried installing the Easy Photo Print from the printer installation disc.  A message came up telling me I couldn't use it with Windows 7.  I went online and downloaded a newer version from Canon that works with Win 7.  Canon Easy Print EX Version 3.2.0  The program doesn't see my printer.  I tried using my printer installation disc but it's not compatible with Win 7.  My pc recognized the printer and I'm able to use it with other programs but not the Easy Print one.

I have all my updates already installed.

Your link directed me to Canon.  I've been through that page a dozen times but I can't find any driver update download.  I don't see it on the page.  Am I missing it?

there is no driver to download, only the Print Driver addon under the Drivers section
Which supplies the following
Quote
This software is a module that expands the functionality of the printer driver for Canon Inkjet printers.
You may want to install that addon

You say you have version 3.2.0 Canon easy print software
Why not try uninstalling that version
Then install the version supplied at the link I supplied under SOFTWARE section
Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.0.0

In addition, you may want to install the software
My Printer Ver. 2.9.5
Which supplies the following functionality
Quote
This product allows you to easily change the settings such as the paper source settings and provides you with information on how to solve problems such as ink smudging.

I'm not sure what it was but when I went on the Canon website using my laptop to download the add-on, no drop-down menu for the OS was on the Drivers screen.  I used my friend's pc, went onto the Canon site, found the file I was looking for, and saved it to a stick.  I've since ran it on my laptop and everything is working great.

Thanks for the help.
