Linux Mandrake 9.1

One of the most upsetting thing is when you have a modem that works well in WinXp, but  would not work in Linux, well I have had this problem and I have over come it, so I guess maybe this may help someone out there.

offcourse you should download the mgmt.o file from Alcatel or if you can find the RPM it should be even easier for you, using the RPM format the file is automatically loaded into the /etc/share/speedtouch folder however if you need to put it there manually u can copy the mgmt.o file to /etc/share/speedtouch.

next you need to get the correct information from your service provider about the correct information such as vpi and vci information, after getting that information you need to edit the etc/ppp/peers/adsl and edit the file to put in you vci and vpi information. You need to be in root to do so.
