Win 2000 advanced server cd-key bypass
« on: April 24, 2003, 09:30:28 PM »
Has anyone tried using the tip to remove the CD key during install found at http://www.thetechguide.com/articles/win2kserial.html ??

I used it on Advanced server and I got

\"An error has been envountered that prevents Setup from continuing.

Setup was unable to retrieve the Product Identification of the system you are installing.
The Windows 2000 media may be damaged.

Please contact Product Support\"

Any Ideas?

Man it's been awhile on that one. Try searching these forums for that info. Ive seen that problem before mentioned elsewhere and here..but it really has been like 500 days ago or maybe longer.

Look in that one about multi-os that started like in november of 2001 and is like 30 pages long.

You could also take a 120 day eval version of W2K Pro or Advanced Server, hack the registry (easy) and turn it into a free permanent version.  Slipstream in SP3 and an unattended setup answer file and you have a disk good forever.

I didnt edit the registry or anything...just put the number in that and your
good to go.

btw...i didnt fully install it...so i cant say it works for sure http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />...however im sure it would. I installed it with the key TYPED IN before sp1 was even out a few years ago and i know the key is good. Also unattended setup is support for AServer so it would have to work i think.
