explorer.exe gone crazy in XP pro
« on: April 30, 2003, 11:42:40 PM »
Ok,

I have a really weird problem.
Every now and then explorer (i think) goes crazy in windows XP pro.

For example:

I will be in the middle of working on something (anything) and all of a sudden, my applications and even the desk top freak out. Its as if windows doesnt know wich application to focus on and will try to focus on everything. The result is a similar to \"TABing\" through all of the open accounts.

I have re-installed windows (Fresh) twice and, I just replaced my motherboard and proccesser and I dont think that my copy of windows is bad because I have installed Win XP in my laptop and it has never had a problem.

Any Guesses?

Thanks.
John

Does it start happening right away, or after working on the system a while?

off the bat it sounds like a virus, or a nice little program called Xupiter.

It happens after a while and sparadicly(sp)

I checked for viruses and I didnt find anything, no hidden programs ect and according to my resource meter the only thing affected is the task manager and explorer.

Im stumped.

Thanks for the thought.
Any more Ideas?

John

I had something similar once after upgrading to a new Intel board.  Did you download all the drivers for the board?  IDE and chipset files?  The problem disappeared after installing all those files.
Hope this Helps,

Twinkie

I had a very similar problem last year on my XP box, the system would just freak out and open and close windows and make like it was possessed about once a day.
At first I blamed the new KVM switch I had, but after taking the system off the KVM it was still happening.
I suspected some kind of new virus so I reformatted and reinstalled XP and it was still happening. Then I switched mice and it stopped.
It turned out that my Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 mouse was the problem, I dug around on the MS site and found a somewhat hidden recall of these mice. They had a form that you could send in and get a new mouse if it was in a certain serial number range. I sent in the form and about two weeks later they sent me a new IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 mouse.
Never had the problem since...

Ok guys,
I think I found the problem.

It was the keyboard connector in the back of my pc.

I replaced it, and all has been well.

I would like to send a big THANK YOU to everyone you tried to help me.

PS.
I am still looking for a good web programmer to help me post some dynamic ms access pages on my web server.
