Should I keep my old 64MB PC100 DRAM hooked up if I was to add 128MB PC133 SDRAM to my machine? Will this cause any problems?

It *shouldn\'t*, I have PC100 and PC133 mixed right now, three different brands in fact (PNY, Crucial, and Kingston). If you have problems, it\'s probably because you\'re mixing brands instead of the speed.

Thanks Joseph, I have one other question for you then... I got the 128MB PC133 SDRAM before I realized that my board is only 100Mhz FSB... should I still be able to use it? I\'m running Windows 98 if that makes any diff?

Yes. All RAM is *supposed* to be backwards compatible, meaning PC133 should work on a 100MHz, or even a 66MHz board. There were some problems with the early PC100 sticks not working with 66MHz boards, but for the most part it works fine.

As indicated the PC133 *should* run in a PC100 mobo but only at the 100MHz speed - for most ordinary users this is not a problem though.

BE CEARFULL MOST OF THOSE OLDER THAN THE
TX CHIPSET BOARDS CAN PERMINANTLY DAMAGE PC100 STIKS
I.E I TRIED MY 32MB PC100 DIMM IN MY OLD VX C/SET BOARD ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND ENDED UP WITH A 9MB STICK (IT BLEW HALF AWAY)
REMEMBER THE VX CHIPSET WAS WHEN THE DIMM WAS INTRODUCED SO I SAY ANYTHING OLDER THAN THE TX CHIPSET DONT USE YOUR NEW STICKS IN

PC 100 Ram in a VX? No worries, it works on my Pentuim 233. Sure it was conincidental?
Btw, PC133 and PC100 should work fine together, its when you mix PC66 and PC133 that you get problems.

Hmm I put a 133 256 meg chip in with 2 256meg 100s and while my machine booted and SAID it had 768megs of ram I also got errors on bootup about being out of memory from NAV. I didnt even realized I had mixxed speeds and was having a fit figuring out why it was saying that.

What chipset are you using? AFAIK, the BX chipset will support only 512MB of unregistered SDRAM, any more than that and you will need registered. Perhaps that is causing your problems.

Probably was set to 5 volts. Most older boards had this ability, but I have never seen 5 volt 168 pin dimms. I think it was for some EDO ram that never cautht on.
