« on: June 14, 2003, 01:05:26 AM »
I would like some help if possible, I have a PCI card RAID adapter made by ADAPTEC it is their 1200A model. The problem is I setup my raid 0 configuration using the boot up management tool. and set the configurations up and told the drives to be bootable and yet when i  install windows 2000, the windows 2000 CD needs to be in a CDROM drive for the computer to boot up at all. I really dont know why this is or how to fix it and I am welcome to any ideas.

here is some info about my system

gigabyte GA-7VAX motherboard
ADAPTEC 1200A PCI RAID controller
80 gig western digital 8meg cache specal ed. hard drive
a second 80 gig western digital 8meg cache specal ed. hard drive

785 MB DDR 333 MHZ ram (this is the number reported by windows even though its a 256 and a 512)
windows 2000 service pack 3

I have an Abit VP-6 mobo and it has a built in raid controller card. I will try to help you the best I can with my past experiences with it...

Now, when I first set up the computer and tried to install Windows 2K, I had to press F6 right away when the set up was starting. If you are using bootable floppies, it will ask you for the SCSI drivers after floppy #2. If you have a bootable cd, then after a few mins it will ask you for the floppy also.

One important note - I tried to slipstream SP2 onto my bootable cd and for some reason it wouldn't allow me to put the SCSI drivers on.

Be sure to configure your raid in the bios (or where ever) before attempting to install Win 2K.

On a down side about RAID 0, if one drive fails, you lose everything http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />
