Windows 2000 Reset

I\'m curious if anyone else has had this same problem. I have the following config:

Windows 200 SP2
Soyo K7A1A /w all patches
Classic (Slot A) Athlon 700 (Not oc\'ed)
256Mb Ram (PC100)
Matrox G400 /w latest drivers
DirectX 8.1a (Or whatever the latest one is... I forget now)

Anyways, I can play games just fine. UNLESS i run it in OpenGL mode. If i use open gl mode, or the game defaults to open gl mode, the computer reboots on me. It doesn\'t shutdown windows, the computer just instantly dies, and comes back. This only happens in windows 2000, not windows 98. It\'s really bugging me, and it only happens in open gl. I\'m tempted to go back down to my ld copy of windosw 98, but I like 2000 so much better.

Any ideas? There doesn\'t seem to be anything about it on Matrox\'s site.

please email [email protected] if you have any good suggestions!! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> I\'ll check back here too of course.

That\'s pretty obviously a video driver issue, especially if you never notice a rebooting problem with any other software.  You may even want to use older drivers that have been WHQL certified (although that has never really meant anything to me).  If you really want to fix it though, you may have to reinstall a clean copy of W2K to remove the chances of registry/system file problems associated with those drivers you have installed.

It is also possible that you have some other problem that you haven\'t noticed yet too, but I seriously doubt it would cause the immediate, reproducible results you are getting unless it were a video driver.

Mine did that too. i have a similar setup 650 Duron, 384 Mb, Nvidia TNT2 M64 AGP card, Gigabyte 7-ZX motherboard both with the latest drivers, oh, and Direct X 8.0a.
After I installed a new DIMM, I also installed \"Undying\" by Clive Barker. The game isn\'t supported in Win2K but I went for it anyhoo. At first when the PC rebooted without warning I assumed that the new memory had gone tits up. I removed the memory and it still did it so I removed the game and it still did it. I reinstalled the Detonator3 drivers from Nvidia and then Direct X and hey presto, jobs a good \'n\'.
