Recovery CD

After reading the topic on Bootable CD in this section, I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction for instructions on how to make a Recovery CD tailored by myself for my needs.

I use different operating systems, (Windows) & a range of various software on different computers.

Is there a way of creating my OS, Network & Software with all neccessary drivers on 1 CD (or multi discs if the need be) which will auto install on to a blank HDD from the CD Rom ?

I suppose it's a bit like the Hewlet Packard...Master recovery that comes supplied with a newly purchased home computer.

Any help on this topic would be gratefully received.

rgds to all.

Hi Terry,

It sounds like you may want to make a setup CD in such a way that if your OS
starts giving problems you just put the cd in and restore the entire OS to a
fresh installation including all drivers and programs.

If this is the case then you could use GHOST and make an image of a fresh
install of your OS and then burn it to cd.

If not then give me a few more details as to what you want to do.

When using GHOST to restore your system what other discs will you need to use? Or is everythign you need included on the discs you make?

I want to purchase something like that for my system, is GHOST recommended, or is there somethign better out there. Thanks

Brian

@Brian
Ghost is one of many DRIVE IMAGING packages. I personally find
it both quick and easy to use.

The disk(s) you create in the begining is a COMPLETE system backup
at the time of creation. This means that you need to install your
OS(Operating System) and all drivers and whatever programs and
utilities you may want or need.

Then you create an IMAGE of the complete drive and burn it to
disk(/s).

When you start having problems with the OS. Backup any docs and
personal data and then RE-GHOST the drive with the backup image
on disk.

On average a re-ghost can take 15-20 min compared to a couple of
hours re-installing everything from scratch.

If you want further info don't hesitate to ask.

IF YOU USE A GHOST IMAGE, JUST REMEMBER IT IT WAS A PARTITION OR A HD, I RUN INTO HAVING A PARTITION IMAGE AND TRIED TO RESTORE A HD, WHICH DIDN'T WORK, I DID WROTE THAT ON MY NEXT cd IMAGE, SO I DON'T END TRAHING MY CD IMAGE.
