FTP Downloads
« on: August 20, 2003, 02:50:31 AM »
Due to the huge amount of bandwidth being used for the downloads, and small amount of contributions (maybe $30 over the last 3-4 months), ftp access has been restricted to those who have contributed to the site (whether money, articles, or just generally helping out). If enough people help out with the costs of maintaining the downloads, we'll open it back up to the public. Until then, you have to be a contributor yourself to get access.

Edit: FTP has been re-opened with a max of 3 users.  If you want guaranteed access, you are encouraged to contribute to the site.  You don't have to send money to contribute, we'd actually prefer you to contribute content for the site (how-to's, articles, etc.).

Hi there!

I am ready to contribute $, but how can I do it?

I shure don't want to use a credit card, so it would have to be cash. How do I do it?

you could channel the bandwidth problem by going to filemirrors.com

FTP has been re-opened, please note that it may be shut down during peak times.  You can thank the Google Ads for covering the bandwidth costs.

There's a limit of three users, so if you can't get in try later.  Don't hammer the server else you'll be banned (i.e. trying to connect every second).

Joining the mainstream and becoming a pay for site, now there's a new idea. That's what pisses the masses off the most. Freedom of ideas and knowledge that's what the net is about. I know that ISP's charge for survices but they're not that much if you shop around you can find some inexpensive ones around to fulfill your needs, a few sponcers should cover the costs and let freedom ring.

Man, you must not have read this thread.  First off, it costs more than just a few bucks to host this site.  I don't have exact stats, but we have hit close to a terabyte of transfer in a month's time.  If you can find a host that'll let us push that much bandwidth, for maybe $5 or so a month (probably the average amount donated), I'll jump all over it.

Second, we've tried several ads before.  Currently using Google Ads which is working out quite well, hence the re-opening of the ftp.

say what

It bothers me to hear people complaining about donating to a site like this. The reason they ask for donations is so they dont have to fill their site up with advertisements and pop-ups to cover the costs (and YES it does cost) of hosting the site....Nothing makes me more mad then sites that bombard you with advertisements......If they try to keep their site clean from these most annoying things...DONATE!!!.....where do I apply.
