System Tray Icons Disappeared

Running XP Pro w/ SP1 fully patched.

I logged in today to find that all my System Tray Icons have disappeared and no they are not hidden.

If I log in as another user, the icons come back so this is a user profile error.

Anyone experience this?!?!  If so, outside of recreating the user profile, how did ou fix the problem?

i really cant help you but that happen to me one time in 2k.
it was that the systray wasnt running.

if you use a application that use's the system tray, and kill the process, and restart
the application does the icon come back?

The program is running the the background but when I kill it and restart it, it still doesn't come back to the system tray.

By any chance, did your admin lock you out from the tray?

I'm the only admin on the machine, "Administrator" has been disabled.  Is there anything I can check a registry entry?  To see if I can re-enable it?

Don't know what to say other than trying system restore or if you have a recent backup of the registry using windows backup you could restore it from their. You should always backup your reg often. I do it twice a month.

uhhh, you said system tray right? not quicklaunch/start right?

I seemed to be confused on what you mean by "System Tray" :-)

system tray....the icons for all the things that are running in the background...next to the clock on the right side of the task bar.

Then what does that scree shot have to do with anything?

The screenshot mention's nothing of the system tray.

Well,

According to Microsoft, Taskbar Notification Icons is another way to refer to the System Tray...as that's what I've been calling it since day 1 and seeing how checking the "Show Taskbar Identification Icons" brought back my System Tray, I'll assume that they're one in the same.

I can't help that....now can I?

Just wanted to thank you for posting your fix. I had the same problem and no one could understand what I was talking about. Another good reason for leaving old posts posted... Thanks again. I'm now a member of this forum, as I found a quality answer here. Hope I can help someone else sometime as you have helped me.
