Dual Boot Modem Problem
« on: October 11, 2003, 02:09:39 AM »
Hi

I have a friend that has installed WIN98 on one HD and Win XP Pro on another HD. The system boots ok and al appear to function well except for internet connection.

The Win98 system connects ok but when booted in XP attempts to connect to net via modem gives an error and that the com port 1 is in use by another device.

Would appreciate any advice to give in order to maintain his sanity.

cheers

You have to go into the device manager and switch the modem com port to something like 3 or higher. Com one is used by a serial port and it is the cause of the conflict.

You may be able to change the com settings with software that came with the modem or you might have to uninstall and reinstall it then using the installation software manually choose a port setting. It just depends on what modem you have.
