goddam hippies. "free software" does not always mean free in the free beer sense. more often people mean it in the free speech sense. if nobody gave mandrake any money, you wouldn't be able to look forward to the next release. dumbass. if you can oafford it, sign up for mandrakeclub, if not, wait, or buy a magazine with the isos on the coverdiscs (linux format (UK) has them on the front this month... £6, 3 cds, full OS, great mag)

First of all, you should be better to wait for the public release because Mandrake is going to add new patches. What you find in a magazine, is just a copy og what has been released to Clubers. If you want to support Mandrake, it's not a good idea to buy them anyway.

Also, FREE SOFTWARE for me is FREE, without cost. Many commercial distros are fully comparable to free ones (Debian, Slackware, ...). Commercial distros just added some configuration tools, a graphical installer, sometimes an updater and some facility.
No real and deep changes, so  the OS is based on the work of the Linux community, not on softwarehouses efforts.

Its great, all these people arguing about the fact mandrake have not released 9.2 iso's to the public yet.
If your all that bothered about it, why dont you compile and package your own distro?
Ah thought so, you cant! So instead of bitching why dont you wait untill they decide to release it.

On another note, they have not included anything that isnt already available seperatly. Want better wireless support? Download it. Want AMD64 support? Download it.
Read how to compile your own kernel, instead of waiting for microsoft to release a linux distro!

How are the ISOS that mandrake is going to officially release soon any different from the ones available for download from any of the previously posted mirrors?

First, Mandrake has already released ISOs to club members.  That's what we have available for download here.  They are going to apply some of their updates and create new iso's, before releasing to the general public.

And just what do you think happens when tons of people try connecting every 20 seconds?  Granted, there's people even worse than that.  You should set your client to try once every minute or so.

Plus...I'm sure it tried connecting more often than every 20 seconds...you have to figure in the time it took to get a response, try to login, get told to wait...so it was probably more like every 10 seconds.

it says 9.1 at start, but it installs 9.2.
i have no idea why, but its only a concern for 2 minutes until u realise its definately 9.2.

For those who want links, use google and if your smart u will find what your after before long.

One catch is to install nvidia drivers u may need the source for the kernel, which is NOT on th 3 installation cd's.

Monitor the Newsgroup:

alt.binaries.cd.image.linux

The Mandrake ISOs will be posted there for a while...

In the /dosutils/lang directory you'll find autorun.conf
which has the typo causing the autorun.exe to read 9.1 in the title bar. change it before burning your cd if you want it to read 9.2

I have downloaded the entire 2.4 GB tree from a mandrake mirror and prepared a boot cd with mkisofs without the RPMS folder.

What i need to know is which files are on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd CD's.

I'd appreciate if somebody who downloaded the iso's could mount the cd somewhere and post the output of ls -lR, so i can make the CD's with the files i have legitimately download from mandrake without being a member.

For your interest, I've used slackware, redhat, debian, suse, and still prefer to roll my own system usually based on slackware. I want to see Mandrake, but I generally don't like these distros and their "we do it all for you behind the scenes" config apps. so i won't be paying for it, it's unlikely i'll be using it much, unless i'm surprised. that's just personal preference, My impression from comments is that Mandrake is great for people who want such a system.

thanks!
I downloaded the raw tree, made the four CDs of the cooker, and tried to install it on my notebook (DELL Inspiron 8000)
How?

My raw tree has 2.4GB of rpm's under /Mandrake/RPMS and a soft link called RPMS.cooker -> RPMS.

How did you choose to divide up the rpms between the 4 cd's?

thanks.

Hi!

anyone know where to find the latest patch in conjunction with the LG CD-Rom problem?  Or rather the new iso with the patch included?

Cheers http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Dear Linuxer,

I have Installed Mandrake 9.1 in my Dell PC N series, all thing it's working fine exept  my NIC card (Broadcom 440x) doesn't want to work and connect to my LAN.
The BCM440x is already know by mandrake fresh install. and i already to configure the Ip address, etc for my LAN. but it seems doesn't work. if i used Redhat 9 it can work properly.

would you help me, for i can use my mandrake in my machine ???

Thanks and Best regards,

Vincent
