I installed a Direct X plug-in the other day for an audio program.  I KNOW it is a legit program.  However, after I rebooted my comp, several odd things happened.  I immediately get the message saying "Windows low on virtual memory, changing the size of the paging file, etc."  But when I go into the control panel and try to manually change the size of the paging file it does nothing.  The amount allotted stays at 0Mb.  Clearly this is an odd problem.  I need my computer for school (I'm in college in Boulder) and without it I am doomed.  I can hardly run any programs, let alone any fun ones.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I am at a personal loss.  Thanks.

Could you tell us how much ram your pc has and what O/S you are using, then I might be able to help you.

Yeah that's probably necessary info.   My comp has 128Mb RAM and uses Windows XP as the OS.  Thanks a lot.  Any help would be a beautiful thing.

OK well 128mb is not enough for XP really. XP will use more than that for sure most likely double. One simple fix would be to add more ram like another 256 stick and that would give you enough ram. For virtual Mem setting go to Contol Panel\System\Advanced\Performance\settings\Advanced\Virtual Memory\Change and set to system managed size. This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with RAM - the message is about the pagefile. I've seen this problem aired on another forum, but can't remember which. Try here for some inspiration.

My virtual mem is disabled (pagefile) because I have more than enough ram so my pc doesn't need to use a pagefile thus I don't get a Low of virtual mem message like Chris.  I have the same problem unfortunately.  The reason mine is screwing up is that the last time I did my  windows update it did not complete installing and rebooted for some reason.  Try setting it to 0 in control panel, properties advanced, performance options then reboot.  In recovery console "copy another-file pagefile.sys" then "del pagefile.sys"

"A+Net+MCP", you have got to READ the problem!

The problem is "unable to change the size of the pagefile" (or call it "virtual memory" if you like).

I also have this problem on WinXP at the moment. Forunately it locks the size at 767mb, so it doesn't cause any "problem" yet.

A solution for this would be nice though...

Lock at 767mb... I only have 512mb RAM on the computer...
Don't think it can run without virtual memory on...
