Please Help
« on: January 16, 2006, 05:27:21 PM »
A few months ago you helped my with my computer problems. This time my dad's computer is having problems. Norton AntiVirus displays that Trojan.Goldun is infecting his comuter, but it cannot delete or quarantine the infected file(s). Mozilla Firefox is also unable to be opened, but Internet Explorer is working just fine. He gets several pop ups as well.

Here is the log file:

You have a password stealer and many other problems on your computer

I really can't believe he's surfing around without any Security patches from Windows updates
I did a test on the weekend with Windows 2000
Installed and hooked up to the net without any security updates
I had several viruses hit me within 3 minutes

DON'T install SP2 for XP yet, it will be a bad install

Go to this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...1/expresso.mspx

Download SP1a for XP
Install it, and then reboot your computer
Without these updates it's useless to go on, as you will probably get reinfected in no time at all
I also suggest, password stealers can gain info about email passwords
And also online banking passwords and credit cards if you do this online
If you use this computer for financial transactions, I suggest you contact Credit card/banks and make sure nothing has been approved without your consent until you are clean

Come back here after you have Sp1a installed and post a fresh hijackthis log

EDIT>>In addition, can you open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open "Uninstall Manager"
Click the SAVE LIST button
Save this list too desktop, then copy and paste back here the whole contents too please

Back in Windows
Can I see the following

1. Run another System scan and Save logfile with Hijackthis and post the log
2. Post the report you saved earlier with Ewidos
3. Post the log created by FxSecefa.exe that should be on the desktop

I would also like to see a couple more logs later, but do the above for now, that should keep you busy  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
If you have trouble with doing a step, skip it for now and carry on with the remainder
Let me know what you couldn't do later
But try and do everything

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Ok! I'm back. I only had a few problems along the way.

All the programs you asked me to uninstall went away fine, except Win-dh. When I clicked to uninstall/ remove it, nothing happened and it stayed there.

Also, out of the files and folders you asked me to delete, most were not there or deleted fine except:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\docent0.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msupdate32.dll
Those I could not delete.

Also, you asked me to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wprcaw.dll
but I did not find that. I found ...wprbaw.dll. Just incase it wasn't a typo, I left it there.

My next problem occured when I tried to install DelDomains.inf. When I clicked to install, the screen blinked a bit, but nothing else happened. I don't know if that was normal or not.

Everything else went fairly smooth.

I am able to use Mozilla Firefox now, and the computer seemed to load faster, but there are still pop ups.

We got rid of a lot of bad guys

can you please still do the following
As promised, I want to see a few more logs

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT:  Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! This Fix must NOT be run in safe mode for it to work.

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first and letting me see a log

Can you also do the following please:
Download Trackqoo.zip
Save it to the Desktop
Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post

Also, Download Find-Qoologic.zip  and save it to your Desktop.
UNZIP the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic to the desktop

Open the FindQoologic folder.
Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.
Choose option 1  for Run Findqoologic by typing 1 and pressing enter.
This will scan your system.
Wait until a text opens.
Post this in your next reply

Can you go back and do the following please
Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post
Make sure you post the WHOLE log
It appears you may of cut the bottom portion of it off

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

EDIT>>I didn't mention this earlier, but should of
If this version of Norton's does not include a Firewall
At minimum, for now
Go to the following link
Take note how to enable the Firewall for Service pack 1
http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/lan/res-net/xpfirewall.html
If it's not enabled, try and enable it now

Can you do the following please
Ewido took care of a lot of bad files, including the ones you couldn't delete
You may also find that Win-dh is no longer in add/remove prgrams

=Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet
Ensure to include REGEDIT4 and below in the code box

Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\fmtxyfgq]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c5646f1f-e50a-4900-b8c1-4033e18cf12a}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6EC11407-5B2E-4E25-8BDF-77445B52AB37}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ColumnHandlers\{6EC11407-5B2E-4E25-8BDF-77445B52AB37}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WebNexus]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"winsync"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{9E248641-0E24-4DDB-9A1F-705087832AD6}]

Open Ewido
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

==Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.
* Save it to your desktop

Can you save the rest of these instruction to a text file on the desktop please

Close all other Windows, including this one
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: docent0 - docent0.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - msupdate32.dll (file missing)

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Have just the text file you saved with instructions open
Run Pocket KillBox.exe
Click on TOOLS>>Delete Temp files

In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing the 2 key combination on your keyboard
Control + C

Killbox files to highlight between dotted lines
===================================================
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bre32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\eipnpeq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fkrwm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wprbaw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\o4ns0e57eh.dll

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.STACKER\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\xogj.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FJDDVFK.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking v123.cpl

===================================================
*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer doesn't restart
Please Restart it now manually into safe mode
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter

In safe mode, again
==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
    Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido
NOTE: When Ewido is running, don't open any other Windows

Double click on fix.reg and allow to add/merge to the registry

Reboot back to normal mode, but don't open any other windows

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start.  Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log

I need to see the following please

1. Post the log from L2Mfix
2. Post a fresh hijackthis log
3. Post the full report from Ewido's
4. Can you also do the following again
Open the FindQoologic folder.
Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.
Choose option 1 for Run Findqoologic by typing 1 and pressing enter.
This will scan your system.
Wait until a text opens.
Post this in your next reply

I think you nailed it  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

We just have some leftovers to do
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us6.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://us6.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us6.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://us6.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/

After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done
Reboot the computer

Back in windows
Access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page
Restart IE

Let's do on more double check before we update this machine to SP2
Use Internet Explorer and Run the online Panda ActiveScan
    * Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
    * A new window will open...click the big Check Now button.
    * Enter your Country.
    * Enter your State/Province.
    * Enter your e-mail address.
    * Select either "Home User or Company."
    * Click the big Scan Now button.
    * Allow the ActiveX component to install and download the files required for the scan. This may take a couple of minutes.
    * Click on Local Disks to start the scan.

When the scan is complete
click See Report, then click Save Report and save it to your Desktop.

Post back the following please
1. Post back a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post the full report from Panda's

Can you make sure that you have rebooted the computer now that you have run the Panda scan

Back in Windows
Go to start>>run>>copy and paste the following into the open field, then hit OK

regsvr32 /u occache.dll

This will help make some files visible in the Downloaded Program Files folder

Find and delete the following files, make sure windows is set to show hidden files and folders
Exact file names in the exact folders please

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\turbo.inf

C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking v123.cpl
C:\WINDOWS\thin-114-1-x-x.exe
C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpd2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\woinstall.exe
C:\GatorPatch.log
C:\keys.ini

You can go into the C:\Program Files\Support.com folder and delete the backups
May have to be done in safe mode or an option to remove the backups thru the program itself
When that's done go back to START>>run>>copy and paste the following into the open field than hit OK
regsvr32 occache.dll

Post back and let me know how things are running
Your version of Norton's is quite outdated, does it still update?
If you don't plan on updating it, would you consider uninstalling it and try an Alternative free version?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

All of those files deleted fine. I have not seen a single pop up since I deleted them either which is a good sign. The computer also seems to be running much faster with websites loading in half the time. My dad said he would rather not delete the Norton he has now because he just renewed the subscription.

One thing I wanted to say also is that when he logs on, an alert box opens that says "DLLCMD32.EXE" - "This file could not be located". I don't know what that file is used for, but I thought maybe you should know.

I don't know if you wanted a HijackThis log file but here is one anyway:

Hold onto Norton then, as he has just renewed it
I just wanted to make sure the virus definitions were kept up to date

The file Dllcmd32.exe is related too
eFax Messenger 4.0

I'm not familiar with the program, it may be corrupt and need uninstalled>>reinstalled
Or have Hijackthis fix checked this entry with all other windows closed

O4 - Global Startup: Live Menu.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\efax\Dllcmd32.exe

Additionally, he also has other optionals that don't need to be running on startup
It will save on resources to have hijackthis fix them
Don't remove the backups that hijackthis makes, until your happy with the way everything is running
I would tick the next ones too
They can be started manually
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe
O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

I'm not sure if he needs efax system tray running on startup?

Reboot the computer after you have fixed any of the above

Just some final cleanup to do later

The computer seems to load much faster now, and I have still yet to see a pop up. After deleting the DLLCMD32.EXE file eFax seems to be fine.

Good work, I think your ready to do some final cleanup

*If everything is running better
We should clear all your restore points to ensure you don't restore any nasties that may be residing in the
restore folders
Go to START>>RUN>>In the open field
type in msconfig
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"

Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer

Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of Turn off system restore
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point

After that's done

Code: [Select]
EDIT>>I just remembered the following
C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts: (unrepairable)
Can you open Hijackthi>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Hosts file manager
Click the "Open In Notepad" button
A text file will open, can you come back here and post the contents of this text file please
Hoster we ran earlier should of restored this hosts file, I just want to be sure
===========================
*For added protections against future attacks
You should install this free tool
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
Check for updates every couple of weeks
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
===========================

*Check for updates with your anti-spyware programs and run a check on a regular basis
About every couple of weeks>>ad-aware and Spybot

In addition Open Spybot 1.4
*Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Do the above after every update
===========================
I would opt to hold onto CleanUp! <--can be ran once a week
and Ewido<--check for updates once a month and run a scan
===========================
Now to get you updated to SP2
I would run Cleanup! again with the instructions I posted earlier
This cleans your temp folders, etc...
Also cleans your prefetch folder, if you find the first bootup after running CleanUp! is a little slower
That is because of the cleaning of the prefetch, not to worry
Bootup will be faster next time around

I would also take this oppurtunity to to a Disk Defragment
I prefer to do this in safe mode, allows minimal running
It may take some time if it hasn't been done for awhile
Afterwards, boot back to Normal mode
We've started you in the right direction to install SP2
Please, additionally, take a look at this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
Afterwards, visit Windows updates and install SP2, may take about 30 minutes or more on cable, dsl

Once installed, reboot the computer
Just a reminder, if you are not set to Autoupdate, make a habit of visiting Windows Updates
and check for High Priority updates at least once a month
This is important in keeping your system secure

Stay safe  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

NOTE: I wouldn't be without Firefox, your running an older version
you may want to uninstall your version and install the latest

Here is the hosts file you asked for:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a "#" symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
#
127.0.0.1 localhost

Hosts file looks good, just one last one too take care of in your hijackthis log

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

This is what it's related too
Quote
Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. "Spyware" file used surreptitiously to monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers
I wouldn't leave it running

Do a system scan only with hijackthis, with all other windows closed
Fix checked that entry
Reboot the computer

Back in Windows
Navigate to this file
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE
Right click on it and rename too ALCXMNTR.EX_
This will ensure it won't start

Additionally, can you make sure that you have all latest high priority updates installed
You may have, just double check
Open IE>>Click on TOOLS>>Windows updates
Click the EXPRESS button, let it scan
When it's done it will notify you if you have any highpriorities to install
Reboot if any installed and requires a restart
I would say this computer is safer now  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
