Mouse Problems?
« on: December 08, 2006, 09:58:30 PM »
My mouse has been acting up for months now and im fed up with it so im finally posting here.

Ok, well my mouse every once in awhile freaks out and starts randomly flying and clicking everywhere, but only when I start to move it. Its a laser w/e so theres no track ball. If I blow on the inside of it, it usually stops doing that. But also sometimes it will just totally stop moving, and I cant do anything but restart the computer so it will work again.

I have tried fixing this issue, ive tried 2 other mouses, one being a trackball as well. Ive reformatted and it still occurs.

Is it the hardware? Or the plug in the back of the computer? I mean I dont know what else to do...

Any help is greatly appreciated! =)

Anyone know a place where they can send me to, to help get it fixed or something?

Not enough info,
Name of mouse being used
PS2 or USB?
Operating system
Did you actually Clean Install or reinstall operating system over top?
Are you using any kind of reflective mouse pad or surface with your mouse?

Ive tried 3 mouses, the main one is a hp, not sure the exact name.
Its not usb so it must be ps2.
windows xp home
I reformatted and installed a new copy of xp
Im using it on my desk, so wood. After awhile it also leaves these white bumpy spots on it I guess from the laser light under the mouse.

Yah, I'm not sure what it is either
Maybe pick up the mouse and look at it for some indication of the model

I can't find nothing on that model

Make sure that the optical sensor is clean on the bottom of the mouse
DON'T use any kind of alcohol based liquid to clean it, just try and blow it out the best you can, make sure there is no build up
If you have a big build up, use a lint free dry cloth and try cleaning it

Older optical mouse seem to like a one color, non grain surface to run on
Do you have a non reflective pad you can put the mouse on?

If none of the above helps
Can I see a hijackthis log, I just want to use it for program identification

Download Hijackthis 1.99.1 from my signature below
SAVE it to your desktop

Double click on hijackthis_sfx.exe on desktop
Click the UNZIP button>>OK the prompt
This will self extract to C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Delete hijackthis_sfx.exe from desktop

Go to START>>RUN
Copy>>paste the following to the open field, then hit OK
%systemdrive%\Program Files\HijackThis
This will open the Hijackthis folder
RIGHT CLICK on Hijackthis.exe and select SEND TO>>Desktop (create shortcut)
You can now run Hijackthis.exe from the new shortcut placed on your desktop

Double click to run Hijackthis.exe
Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here

Cleaning it doesnt work. And ive used regular trackball mouses and they dont work either. Could it be the mouse drive thing in the computer? Maybe the plug for it in the back of the computer?

Heres my hijack log:

Mouse Problems?
« Reply #8 on: December 16, 2006, 12:53:47 PM »
Again, try running the mouse on a non reflective mouse pad and see if it helps
Also, go into the mouse properties in Windows Control Panel
Under Pointer options,
Uncheck, if it is checked "Automatically move pointer to default position....."

How high do you have the mouse pointer speed, try reducing it and see if it helps
If no help

If you didn't intentionally install Viewpoint Manager
Access your add/remove programs and remove it
You may also have more than one entry related to Viewpoint
Such as Viewpoint Media Player, remove it also

Reboot into safe mode
Right click on the "MyComputer" icon
Left click Properties>>Hardware tab>>Device Manager
Expand(+) on MICE in the list
Right click on your Mouse in the list and choose Uninstall
If there is more than one entry, remove them all under MICE

Reboot back to Normal Windows
Let Windows autodetect and install the driver

Any help?
