If you have an AntiVirus software that is capable of updating and keeps up to date
You don't need another
Not sure what you mean by the school recommended one that what a partial AV, but I doubt it, by the looks at your log, you have McAfee full version installed
So as I suggested earlier, remove one or the other, your choice

See how things are afterwards

I uninstalled the microsoft security essentials, restarted and the problem still exists. I also tried to run the fixit tool afterwards, but its still unable to check for updates.

Have you tried the repair with the Install disk?

Note: If you have a Dell, it may be possible, however, I see you have Service pack 2 installed
Is this what came preinstalled on your system?
If not, you may have to clean install again, but I gave the link to Repair (Upgrade) earlier, take a look

I left my vista disk at school so I won't be able to get to it for another week or so. But, I do have a dell, and when I installed everything I'm not 100% positive but I think that Service Pack 2 did not come preinstalled. I have the link to my last topic, there are some hijack logs and whatnot in there from when I first clean installed, "Windows Failed to Start" .

Hey questolo, I was wondering if there were any other options to fix this. I've made no progress over the last month, but I believe I need this fixed but don't know how to go about it. If could help me out further on this matter, I'd greatly appreciate it. thanks, power-i
